There is a documented issue with the board where the BIOS is incompatible with the 90nm 939 CPU's if the BIOS version is <1.5. I found this on a forum elsewhere (ABIT's I believe):

Please note that
Only the BIOS 15 or later can support new 90nm AMD Winchester 64 CPU on AV8 series boards.
Only the BIOS 17 or later can support new 90nm AMD Sempron 64 CPU on KV8Pro series boards.

Without the right BIOS, the board will not boot up and the BIOS can not be upgraded on board. The error code on the board will be 9.0.
You can use the older type of CPU (Newcastle) to boot the system up and upgrade the BIOS.
Or
Change the BIOS by your selves. Please note that you need the PLCC extractor in order to remove the BIOS chip. You can find it at Maplin or http://custom1.farnell.com/cpc/sear...tnSubmit=Search

Please email your address and the mainboard serial number to returns@abitcomputer.co.uk, and we will post you a latest BIOS.
You should receive the BIOS in 4 days and should not longer than 5 working days. But please note that we are no responsible for the delay, if any industrial actions taken by the postal workers.

If you are not able to remove the BIOS chip and wish to send the whole board back to us just for the BIOS upgrade. Please email technical@abitcomputer.co.uk and request a RMA return form. Please note that to send the board back to you, we require delivery charge £11.75 to be sent with the board and it should be paid in postal order made payable to Abit computer corp., ltd.
Alternatively, if you can bring the board to our office at above address pre-arranged. We can program the BIOS while you are waiting.

Please note that this service only provided to the users living in the U.K. only and all prices quoted apply to the U.K. mainland only.

** How to verify if your board has the right BIOS. **
Below figure shows the mainboard serial number KV8P-C4A****** and the code ?C? for the ECN version on the PCI slot 5.

For AV8 series, please check the serial number first.
If the serial number is ?C4K and the code is E or later, then you have the right BIOS.
If the serial number is not ?C4K and the code is F or later, then you also have the right BIOS.
Other than that, all require a BIOS upgrade.
For KV8Pro series, if the code is D or later, you have the right BIOS, otherwise, a BIOS upgrade is needed.
Please note that the method to identify the board ECN version only applied to the boards sold from Abit UK office with ?Genuine by ABIT UK? sticker on the board. There are many importers i.e. Komplete.co.uk who imports the boards from third country.
We are unable to determine the version for the boards like this.

I received my board today and it looks like I am in business. If I interpret the instructions correctly my board is NOT C4K and the code is E or later (F to be exact). As an FYI to others who may be wondering, the serial number is on the side of the DIMM slot closest to the edge of the board. I have a pic of mine (most of it) for reference - PM me if you would like me to send it to you (if someone would liek to post it somewhere, that would be great). I haven't put my rig together yet but I'll make an update when I do. I hope this helps someone!
