Hello

I'm writing a little piece on various brands. My main focus will be on the brands that do both motherboards and graphics card such as Asus (and thus excluding Creative Labs), and I had the thought, that I'd like to hear some opinions from hardware-enlightened people around the world - the anandtech.com forum members. My main objective is to see if people will agree about the various brands.

I'd be gratefull to anyone who'd like to participate. Before replying please know that use the results for a published article. I might use actual quotes from your replies, so if you don't want that, simple note in your reply, thay you don't want me to quote you and I'll refrain from doing so. If you you'd like to possibly see your opinion in print, then be sure to end your reply with name (real or "nick") and country as seen below.

The piece will run as part of a monthly segment in the danish magazine >pcplayer. Depending upon the success of this idea, it could run several issues either regularly or sporadically. This will in no way shape or form be seen in a competitive media to anandtech.com, but will rather be free advertisement for this forum as the hardware place.

The following is what I'd like you to talk about. You can either just answer with a brand or write as long an opinion as you'd like to explain the reasoning behind your picks. You opinions don't have to be based on hard fact or experience, but rather should just be the impressions you have about brands. No answer is wrong here.
Oh and please don't start bickering or commenting on others opinions. I can't use that at all and it'll only be destructive for the purpose of this survey.

Just copy paste the below text into your reply and fill it out...

Depends alot on the situation...Intel make great boards, but not for AMD obviously...Tyan makes great boards, but mostly for workstations/servers, etc.
Overall, Im still gonna go with Asus, cause they have a broad range and good reliability.

What brand would you recommend people buy? Overall quality
Abit

What brand would you recommend people buy? Most stable/reliable product
Intel, never actually used one myself since they don't offer many features in terms of overclocking, but they have a great reputation for being rock stable.

What brand would you recommend people buy? For the overclocker
Abit

What brand would you recommend people buy? For the gamer
Abit for the gamer that overclocks, but for a someone who also cares about appearance and extras, DFI Lanparty is a nice brand.

What brand would you discourage people from buying? Unrealiable/often defective/problematic
MSI

What brand would you discourage people from buying? General lack of features
ECS generally don't have as many features, but that's why they're cheaper... I wouldn't discourage someone from buying one if all they're going to do is surf the web with some run-of-the-mill hardware.

tell it to your ONE rock solid MSI. sure. then you can turn around and tell it to my 2 DOA MSI's and my other MSI that had the IDE channels die. im 0/3 with MSI, and 2 of my friends have had defective MSI mobo's. i agree with you, brand zeal is stupid, but i think my troubles with MSI permit me to feel that they are a poor motherboard maker.

**EDIT** and you can tell that to the other 30% of people who have problems with their MSI's.

so its ok for over 30% of AT users to have issues with MSI? if you think they are honestly a great mobo maker, you are cleary a fanboy. the polls show that they are sub-par. sure they have some good ones, but i hear KIA makes a good car every now and then also ;)

if i was a fanboy my last three motherboard purchases wouldn't have been Asus and DFI. and where do you grab that perfect 30% number from general opinion? MSI has been put is MANY OEM computer systems, how do you poll those thousands with no opinions since they are everyday web surfers?

you can think what you want to, but it still stands that a lot of people have problems with MSI. im not trying to change your opinion of the company, but a lot of people here have MSI problems, and thats undeniable.
