Abit AN8 Ultra and X2 4800

Are there problems that I don't know about with the x2? Mine seems sluggish. I had a P4 2.8 before, and this new system seems sluggish. 1 gb mushkin 222 ram, 320 hd & 200 hd, XP Pro (legal) , x2 4800. I'm useing the 32 bit version of xp, do I need the 64 bit?Thanks

only potential problem that I know of is that some people have problems with X2s & large (couple Gb) transfers over USB2.0.

When you say sluggish what do you mean exactly?
Have you tried the MS hotfix for dual cores?

Yep, did the hotfix.Files don't pop up as fast as they should and when you try to run CMD it has errors:

c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:014b IP:007f OP:8e 8f 90 92 92 Choose "Close" to terminate the application.

sounds more like a software error than a hardware 1 judging by a quick Google for "The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. ".

& no, you don't need the 64-bit version of XP just because it has a 64-bit capable CPU.

Thanks. When I first installed it gave me a lot of problems. After about 5 reformats and no windows updates it worked ok. It seemed that the updates caused problems with the hauppauge 350, best I could tell. I can live with it like it is, it just doesn't live up to my expectations(and cost).
