I am having a problem with my new ABIT AN8 - ULTRA motherboard and I was wondering if anyone would be able to help.

I cannot seem to get my computer to boot up sucessfully with 4 DIMMs (I am using 4 sticks of Corsair XMS 3200). My computer boots up fine with 3 sticks of RAM, but as soon as I add the 4th stick, I get a series of long beeps and the POST display displays code 0.4 (which I believe means that there is a problem with the RAM). I know the sticks of RAM are fine (I tried each one individually and no error). I am pretty sure it is not a problem with the actually slots on the motherboard (since the board will boot if I have sticks in slots 1, 2 and 3 or 1, 2 and 4).

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

What BIOS revision are you running? On Abit's BIOS page for your board, Version 18 says:
1. Enhanced some VGA cards compatibility.
2. Update nVIDIA RAID BIOS to V4.8
3. Enhanced DRAM compatibility.
4. Enhanced some sound cards compatibility.
5. BIOS compiled date: 09/27/2005
If you're lucky, this may help.

Does the same thing happen with any three of the four sticks?

I haven't tried to update the BIOS. I am actually still in the process of reassembling the computer.

Thats the strange part, so long as there are three sticks it will boot fine. I have tested all 4 sticks.

You got my best quick take. I'm headed out to a party. Hope the BIOS flash helps. :)

The board will only run 4dimms in 2t mode, set the bios for the ram to auto or switch it to 2t

No luck. No matter what I do, with 4 DIMMS the board refuses to boot with 4 DIMMS.
