I tried replacing my x1950xt with MSI r4870 MD1 and no post. I had an FPSgroup 700w psu. no beep error, no post. I tried my brothers PC power and cooling 750w no post, 3 short beep vga error. MSI says on 965 chipset issue. I have abit ab9 bios ver.22. anyone know where I can get a newer bios since abit is out of business? This has been a great motherboard.
thanks,

It was a tricky matter at the time when PCIe Gen 2 cards started arriving. It could be many things (switch, power, or priority-related stuff in the BIOS) and frankly if the latest BIOS doesn't fix it, it may not work.

If you plug back X1950XT does it work normally? Do you have any other PCIe Gen 2 video card (preferably low-power variant) that you can try?

Yes, the x1950xt works fine. MSI states no issue with 965 chipset. So I believe newer biso may fix the problem if there is one out there somewhere. I have biso ver 22. I hoping someone may know of a newr bios out there.

Thanks for the reply,

There is an AB9 Pro beta 23 bios. Likely put out for 45nm cpu support.

Does your motherboard have the extra molex power socket near the PCIe slot, and are you using it? I wasn't using it, but found it helped when I had some problems booting up an unsupported cpu.

Found a poster complaining that the beta bios broke some things.
