Abestosis

"Asbestosis - this condition is a scarring of the lungs caused by exposure to very high levels of asbestos for long periods of time (years). This condition has been diagnosed in asbestos miners and is unlikely in the generally population."

From here

Linked to this visual atrocity.

What kind of disease can I get from looking at that second website?

The siding on my house is all asbestos shingles.

*might* want to have that looked at....

We can't really do anything about it. The family doesn't have enough money to have them removed and we can't put anything up over them because they shatter with a single nail.

This site quotes the American Lung Association:
What Are Its Health Effects?

Asbestos fibers can have serious effects on your health if inhaled. There is no known safe exposure to asbestos. The greater the exposure, the greater the risk of developing an asbestos-related disease.

The amount of time between exposure to asbestos and the first signs of disease can be as much as 30 years. It is known that smokers exposed to asbestos have a much greater chance of developing lung cancer than just from smoking alone.

Asbestos can cause asbestosis, a scarring of the lungs that leads to breathing problems and heart failure. Workers who manufacture or use asbestos products and have high exposures to asbestos are often affected with asbestosis.

Inhalation of asbestos can also cause lung cancer and mesothelioma, a rare cancer of the lining of the chest and abdomen lining. It may be linked to cancer of the stomach, intestines, and rectum, as well.

i went down to my grandmas basement in phila (old ass house) and her heat pipes are still ghetto asbestors. i snorted the asbestos for hours but only for one day.

lol jk i am just wondering if being underneath pipes with it on was dangerous. i might have touched one or two though but only once.

Asbestos is gritty when squeezed between your fingers. You are usually only in danger if the asbestos is burnt/charred or disintegrating and you disturb it.

If you weren't knocking this stuff around it's no big deal.
