People can actually afford to buy 20 items at a time for Pimpercrombie and Biatch?
MINOTOLA, N.J. -- One family said they couldn't believe what happened on their back-to-school shopping trip.

Donna Lupi said she shops at Abercrombie & Fitch because it is the only store where the clothes fit well for her and her daughter.

Lacy Lupi, Donna's daughter said she is happy with her recently purchased clothes from Abercrombie & Fitch, but she was not happy with what she and her mother went through when buying them.

"We get up there, we've got two huge piles, and they start taking sensors off. Next thing I know, they start whispering and then the manager calls me over and says, 'We have to speak to you. We have a problem,'" Donna Lupi said.

Donna and Lucy were told they were "over the limit." They wanted to buy too much.

"She said, 'We've had a problem with foreigners and since we cannot discriminate against someone from another country, we decided to put a policy in place that prevents anyone from purchasing more than 20 items,'" Donna Lupi said.

"They basically told us that foreigners were coming in and purchasing a lot of items in bulk and then selling them overseas for three times as much," Lacy Lupi said.

The Lupis had 23 items on the counter. They charged 20 and, because they complained, the store let them pay cash for the three that exceeded the limit.

Abercrombie & Fitch said their policy was intended to "protect our brands from the resale of authentic merchandise at inflated prices through non-company owned stores and Internet auction sites."

On eBay, Consumer Alert found thousands of Abercrombie & Fitch listings for women's clothing.

Whether it is online or overseas, Lacy and Donna said they were disgusted by the policy.

"It's ridiculous. It's the stupidist thing I've ever heard in my life," Lupi said. "To me it was an insult. It was a smack on the face."

The Lupis said they spent $700 and were considering a coat, but after their experience they question whether they would ever shop at that store again.

so in other words A&F is not smart enough to expand overseas and sell their products for 3x the price?
WTG business logic.

LOL, QFT, there is obviously a market for there product overseas, if others are selling it at 3x the price. I guess they have a problem with making money. *shrug*

In another bizzare A&F story, I walked by one of their high profile stores and they hade a live model standing in front.

Seriously, it was this guy just standing there all day in A&F clothes. It was kinda creepy.

Polo, Tommy, and other designer brands cost even more. If you raise the price of an item, people will think it's better.

They probably wouldn't sell enough for them to make enough money if they expanded themselves, they basically have to start from scratch for infrastructure, and they might have exclusive contracts with importers or seeing sales away from their web sales.

A&F prices are incrdibly high to begin with - who is going to pay 3x as much for them? $100+ t-shirts?

I wonder if someone is well know or famous with a ton load of cash (i.e. Bill Gate) decides to shop there. Would they limit him to 20 pieces? :D

Yeah, I always find that hilarious. :D They shop there because the clothes are trendy. I don't know why people are afraid to admit that and use the "fit better" or "quality" B.S. excuses.

I think they're trying to be the next Polo or something. That'll never happen unless they start selling overseas.

at least the story has a happy ending

they'll be back. just like most of the vain, rich, spoiled, stupid americans, they can't live without the branding.

People used to do (maybe they still do) this whenever Levi's were on sale. My wife used to work at Mervyn's and whenever they had a sale on Levi Brand they would get rushed by "foreigners" buying them out of stock. They eventually put in a limit as well.

Why would they care if someone was re-selling their clothes overseas? Is their some business reason behind that?
