ABC will begin airing new fourth-season episodes of ?Lost? Jan. 31.

Many speculated fresh ?Lost? might remain lost until next fall in the event of a long strike. ABC's move to schedule "Lost" at midseason defies the preferences of showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, who did not think the last episode of ?Lost? scripted before the writers? strike made for the best of season finales.

Locke, Hurley, Kate, et al will be taking up regular residence away from Wednesday night for the first time. They?ll now be replacing the incorrigible Dr. McSteamy & Co. by inheriting the ?Grey?s Anatomy? timeslot at 9 p.m. Thursday (where they are certain to crush NBC?s ?Celebrity Apprentice?).

ABC?s new drama ?Eli Stone,? from a bunch of the guys behind ?Brothers & Sisters,? will follow at 10 p.m. Thursdays, replacing the Christopher Titus crapfest ?Big Shots.? ?Stone? is about a thirtysomething attorney (Jonny Lee Miller) who finds himself plagued with ?visions? that take him in not-always-lawyerly directions.

"Lost's" old Wednesdays-At-10 timeslot will be taken over by "Cashmere Mafia."

James Hibberd at TV Week has ?Lost? and other scheduling news here.

I'm a bit confused by that. Are they showing the finale as is even though they don't think it's good? Maybe I'm missing something but I'm glad it's back

they're saying that the last episode probably doesn't have the true feeling of a season finale. the finale for this season wasn't written to be the finale. the season was supposed to run 16 episodes but now it will end at about episode 8 due to the writer's strike.

Gotcha. For some reason I thought they were farther along.

So its partially a gamble. If the writer's strike ends early, they can keep the season going. But if the strike doesn't end early, you possibly piss off viewers by leaving them in the middle of a season.

I was going to post the same thing. I hope they run a re-cap episode before the season starts because I've forgotten a lot of what was going on. I don't want to re-watch the last season, I just need something to refresh my memory. The gap between last season and this season is waaaaaay to long.

I actually think they have a room full of writers who jot down random plot outlines on slips of paper, they mix them up in a big fishbowl, have a trained chimpanzee pick out the winners and viola the plot for the next episode is written.

This could probably be done really cheaply with a room full of first year film students if need be.

WOOOOOOOOOT, thanks.

I got sucked into the show flipping through channels one night, stumbled across the 1st episode as it started. I saw the chaos on the beach and thought, hhhhmm, this looks like a good movie. Other than Heroes, this is the only TV show I watch with any regularity.
