Here's the link. I wonder how they will have a comedy handle death. There's only one sitcom that has ever done it very well, and that is Seinfeld. In perticular, I'm thinking when George's fiancee died, and it worked cause no one cared about her. Ritter was the main star. I love this show and will continue to watch, and I will see how it plays out.

Ummmm...but the woman on Seinfeld didn't die in real life.

A better example would be how News Radio handled Phil Hartman's death.

I wish them much success, but that usually doesn't work. Case in point--News Radio. It continued after the death of Phil Hartman, but it was never the same and only lasted one or two more seasons.

ALthough in Seinfeld, the actress who played Susan didn't really die :)

Edit: Doh!

I don't see any comedy elements in it as long as John Ritter is remembered...

:(

ABS is probably going to spin it into more of a drama type show dealing with real 'issues' and how people cope, probably going to move away from slapstick comedy. At least for a while.

coach wasnt the main guy in cheers.
and phil hartman wasnt the main character of news radio...although he did have enough presence to make you think he was. without him, the show was pointless.

I don't see it working out. Maybe to end this season but it's over next year I think.

Yeah, I was reading an article about this on my PDA...should be interesting. I really hope it can succeed, since he was such a good guy and deserved a revival of his career...but it all falls in the hands of the writers and the audience now. Lots of us will watch out of respect, but who knows if it can survive.

it will fail miserably, but, as they say, "The show must go on." Can't fault them for trying. Most actors would want the show to continue without them, and I suspect it's safe to assume John Ritter would have wanted it that way as well.

I'm diggin' the tall blonde....along with every guy who watches the show....what, you think I tuned in for the comedy or to watch John Ritter (RIP)? Will they have a replacement father and pretend he is the dad or will they write something in the script about why he isn't there?
