I don't see how the combined efforts of the Palestinian Authority and Israel can stop terrorist attacks. And I still don't believe peace will be achieved in the next 50 years.

Potentially a great sacrificial move. Many Palestinians are tired of the fighting and want peace. Let's hope this does lead to real efforts from both sides.

But it is the radicals/instigaters that refuse to accept the wishes of the majority. :disgust:

What's the point? Israel will keep shutting him out because they think one man can control the actions of everyone. The people who want to fight know this is how Israel responds so they will continue to fight because that is all they know how to do. They don't have jobs and they don't have money. What do they have to lose?

$20 says someone is going to come in this thread and blame everything on the Palestinians. Just waiting for that person to come online.

That's nice... now that Israel built a wall and basically made it difficult to ever go back to the 1967 borders...
well true, would be nice to get some gestures from Israel now to show they are serious about peace

What, severing ties with Abbas in a knee-jerk reaction was not a good gesture? ;)

The colonists (aka Israelis) will just take advantage of this and not cede anything back if it does succeed. Of course, it will fail and Sharon will rejoice because he will have another reason to take land.

I think Israel will be satisfied that he is actually making an attempt reining in the militants and don't expect him to be 100% effective in stopping all the violence (or likely even close to 100%). It's a vast improvement for them simply to not have a PA leader who is encouraging the violence. We'll see if Israeli actions prove me wrong (and they might) but I think their support of Abbas will increase directly in relation to the effort he puts into efforts to stop the intifada and tame the Hezbollahs.

We could only hope so...

just getting them to the negotiation table again will be a major feat

I hope not.

Why not just take it a step further and speculate that these cops will carry out terrorist plots against Israel themselves?

Obviously you dont follow closely the Israeli-Palestinian news. Then you would know how these so-called Palestinian cops are.

I am not saying the Palestinian security forces will carry out attacks on Israel, but after years of secretly supporting the terrorists, I dont have the same trust in these guys as some of you do. I'm sorry I just dont

I suspect that after months of relatively peaceful negotiations all hell will break lose, once again, when Palestinians realize that Israel will not give up majority of settlements AND ?67 borders are ancient history AND Israel will keep control of Palestinian air space AND Israel will keep control of major roads dividing future Palestine AND?.

I hope I?m wrong.

Will you ever realize that the terrorist attacks the Palestinians commit against Israel only come back to bite them. They do more harm to the Palestinian. I hope the Palestinians realize this.

Israel wants to pull out from a lot of the settlements, even though many Israeli's dont.

Of course, you yet again fail to point out that if Israel does pull out of the illegally-occupied territories, the justification for Palestinians to continue terror attacks goes away.

I realize that terrorist attacks, committed by terrorists, come back to bite innocent Palestinians. Unfortunately, looking at Israel?s past record (prior to 2000 uprising) does not give me much hope.

Israel wants to pull out from a lot of the settlements, even though many Israeli's dont.

Really? Any proof of that statement from the present Israeli leadership? Define "a lot".

You got proof on these corrupt cops or is this another one of your no proof statements?

Last time I checked if a murder happens in the U.S we don't blame cops because they cannot control everything. So when it happens in Palestine lets blame the cops for letting it happen, correct?

Well obviously I have not seen news of this, and it sounds like one of those anecdotal things that get blown out of porportion, but please do go on and enlighten me. I'm waiting....

Me too considering that Israel lets these Palestinian cops stay armed. Doesn't make sense for Israel to let them be armed if they are "corrupt"..
