You know the ab belts you see on TV that send an impulse to your ab muscles to flatten and tone them? Do they actually work? Are there any short or long term side effects when using something like that? Has anybody here used one? Thanks.

abcnews said they don't work

you can't get the same force of contraction with those gizmos as you'd get with a real crunch. there are also chances that you get mild burns on the skin.

I never tried those belts but I'm sure they work to contract your muscles. Now... do they work to help you lose weight? I guess YMMV. All these gadgets targeted to work your abs are misleading because there is no such thing as spot reduction of body fat. If you're exercising to burn calories, you lose fat all over... not just in your gut or thighs. Using an ab-belt is still doing exercise... it's just not as voluntary. Cardio-vascular exercise works best to burn fat and ab-belts don't do that.

They don't work. THere have been numerous studies proving that they do about the same ammount of exercise as you lifting the remote and changing the channel.
