AAter Sysprep - Windows could not finish configuring the System

I have a computer I just used to create an image. I ran sysprep and now after reboot Win7 goes to the Starting up service screen and locks. I receive the error "Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer".

I keep getting stuck in the same loop after reboot. Safe mode does not work. Anyone know of a way I can get this system to boot into windows again? I really do not want to have to rebuild this system from scratch as drivers for this thing were a pain.

Recovery mode would not work and I did have the system disk. I ended up following the directions below and being able to get into Windows. However, I broke something with the user profile services and was running into authentication errors. I ended up re-imaging as this will need to be used in a professional environment and have and the computer has to be done soon.

I followed these directions to let me into the computer when it was stuck. I did not install the patch mentioned but did the registry changes instead.

The error could be fixed with hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981542/ well how do we get it on the laptop.
1.When the error: Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer. Press SHIFT – F10. Don’t press OK.
2.At this point you can do basicly anything
3.My advice is to start services.msc and start all of the services which are marked: Automatic
4.Start compmgmt.msc, enable the administrator user, or create an extra user with administrator rights
5.Start explorer.exe
6.You can now Switch the user
7.Log in with the admin user and start the hotfix

Well if you just want to break the sysprep process:
1.When the error: Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer. Press SHIFT – F10. Don’t press OK.
2.Start compmgmt.msc, enable the administrator user, or create an extra user with administrator rights
3.Start Regedit
4.Go to HKLMSystemSetup
5.Clear the Cmdline value
6.Reset the MiniSetupInProgress, SetupType and SystemSetupInProgress to 0 / zero
7.Restart the machine

Is the system running normal now?

If not and going to be in a professional environment I would wipe it and reinstall. Be sure to back up important files.

Or are you re-imaging for a new HDD?

If you have the system disk (that might include Windows on it), and original HDD, easiest thing to do (I think) is just reinstall Windows, if the restore partition fails.

If you have a restore partition and cant get into recovery mode, (like Dell Laptops) something prob happened to partition table and forget about the restore partition.

What I would do is grab a Windows disc of the version the PC came with, reformat entire HDD (only if restore partition has failed) and reinstall using Product Key that came with PC.

*Most driver issues should be resolved after reinstall & updating Windows. I understand this is a pain. But if it is not going to be you using it, a wipe and reinstall might be the best option.
