I didn't know how to apply thermal paste before, so I was in a hurry and I squeezed a whole bunch, about a 1mm thick on my cpu and then put the heatsink on. Is that bad? My Volcano 6 has thermal tape on it... I think... cuz its all black and all so it would be safe to take off the heatsink, clean off the thermal paste, and apply a good layer, right?

Heh, another case of acting before reading. In the Hard|forums, it's "posting and not reading first" :)

Which CPU? You are risking shorting out your AMD CPU if you used AS2 ;) More details!

I'd recommend removing the parafin thermal pad and cleaning up the mess you made with Xylene (Goof Off) and IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol). A thin layer should be applied to the CPU core, not the whole CPU. If you put a thick layer on the CPU core, then no worries, the HSF should have pushed the excess out ;)
