I posted here the other night about my pc shutting down and not turning back on, figured either the cpu or the motherboard cause I was getting power but no beeps.
Well since I have 2 computers and both of them run the same mobo (MSI K7T Pro2a) and same cpu (Duron 650, 1 @ 950, 1 @ 1000, both compuwiz chips). So today I took the cpu out of the working pc and stuck it in the non working one to see if it would power up to try to narrow down to either the cpu or mobo problem.

When I stuck the cpu from the working pc I got a image on the screen but it was just frozen on the post screen, tried clearing cmos again and reseating cards with no luck. I tried my old one again and still not even a picture on it.

I then tried the cpu from the non working pc in the working pc just to see what happened, same thing with no picture or beeps so I figured the cpu is dead, but could it be that randomly my cpu and motherboard both died or could one cause the other?

Either way I'm more than pissed.

Serious bummer. If I were you I would have my power supply checked out before installing another cpu or motherboard into the problem PC. I am a reseller and the biggest single rma problem has been power supplies, even the more expensive "certified AMD" power supplies have a dismal record. I am using an MSI K7T 266 Pro2 RU with Athlon XP chip and have had no major problems. I did download the latest MSI bios from another computer prior to building this one, but I didn't have any problem posting.
It does sound as if you have a motherboard (and / or) cpu problem.

Good Luck:

Hmm, how would I go about having a power supply checked? It's an antec 300 watt amd approved one. I'm just trying to follow the logic but do you think it could be giving the wrong voltage or something to the board?

Edit: You think just sticking my good PS in there and trying it would be good? And I guess if it works I'm out a PS, definately a cpu, and maybe a motherboard, ugh.

You would have to take the system to a local Tech. shop to have the power supply checked. Just tell the tech / sales person that if the power supply turns up with a problem, you would be happy to purchase a replacement from him. OOORRRR you could be real sneaky and purchase a power supply from a large reatailer with a decent return policy, use it to check out your system & if that is not it, jut return it.

It really does sound like you have one component causing serious problems with other components. Unless you have the proper testing equipment you could chase your tail trying to figure this one out. I woudl just break down & take your system to a shop, you most likely avoid some major furstration.

It's up to you, but I wouldn't do it. Why take the chance that it is actually your mobo blowing your cpu. The only way you are going to know for sure is to put a good cpu & powe supply in there and ooops....there goes another cpu. Just take it to a shop. They should be able to figure it out in short order.
