Hi there

im writing because i want to ask for your help in a weird problem i have in overclocking my abit siluro geforce ti 4400

okay here it goes, i want to overclock my 4400 to at least 4600 speeds so i used to the coolbits registry hack with the detonator 42.01 to do this. and it did successfully with no visual anomalies.

heres the problem i get stumped on, after a prolonged shutdown (which cools down the video card too ), when i start from a cold boot and try to play a game overclocked at 4600 speeds (300/650) i get artefacts all over the game which meant that i overlclocked too far with the memory and had to clock down under 600 before the artefacts would go away. So through testing and i found out that after a cold boot i needed to restart again before i can clock my memory speed to 4600 speeds again.

I dont want to restart my computer everytime I want play a game overclocked so please if anyone can offer me any suggestions or ideas to my problem just give me a shout

thank you

*heres some things that may offer people some ideas

- it seems like that i need to wait for the video card to heat up before i can overclock
- i dont think it is a heat issue because i did this with my computer open and my video card came with ramsinks
- it happens also with other overclocking programs (powerstrip and nvmax) so i dont think its a driver or program problem

Based on the above, you have several options:

1..Don't OC the card as high as Ti4600 speeds. With your current setup, it appears the card can't handle Ti4600 speeds. Find your maximum OC speed and stick with it.

2..If you are set on reaching 4600 speeds, increase the amount of cooling for the card and possibly the system. This may involve video RAM heatsinks and/or a better fan on the GPU.

3...Adding extra cooling may not help. It could be the OC you are trying to achieve is impossible for your card (it happens).

I don't have any dealing with the Ti4400 cards, so I don't know how far they general oveclock. Most I see are 4200's that are OC'ed to 4400 speeds.

Personally, I'd be just fine at the stock speeds :)

Easy, Don't power off.

Also, you may want to try running some overnight stress tests while OC'd at that level. If your PC fails at any point during the night while running stress tests, you are indeed pushing your limits, even though it may work properly half the time. Part of the qualification for an overclock being within reason is that it has to work consistently.

Do you have an OS that allows you to hibernate your computer? If so, this may be a better option that not turning it off, and your previous state should be resumed when you start the comp again.

because i know that my video card can do it (4600 speeds that is){im not bragging or anything ok i know people could do more}, if u know something in your computer can be upgraded for free wouldnt u? =)

so main problem right now is i cant overclock to 4600 speeds (memory wise) from a cold boot , a restart is the only way to remedy this. im ok with it but it just baffles me why it its doing it that way =)

You are going through all this aggravation to jump from Ti4400 level to Ti4600 level? It is quite possible that the RAM on your card is not suitable for OC'ing.

You realize that's about 1-2 FPS you might gain. I can understand doing this if it's a point and shoot operation, but to jump through hoops to get it done...not worth the effort.

My card (Leadtek Ti4400) can do 300/600, but it has a MAJOR HS/F (the thing weighs about 40 lbs, I swear) on it as well as air blowing from my card fan. If I had any issues with OC'ing it, I would have just dropped it to stock or a little over and left it alone. In fact I might just do that anyhow b/c my 3Dmark score went up a whole 200 points on the Overclock..whoo hoo...yawn!

My .02, don't sweat the small stuff. That card is plenty fast at stock speeds and if it doesn't like to OC, then don't force it. You are only asking for problems.

If you must OC then you have 2 options:

1. Get better cooling on the card and around the card and say a prayer
2. Sell your card and buy a Gainward Golden Sample (NOT THE 64MB Ti4200) or Albatron Ti4200 Turbo and OC to your hearts content. Both of those cards will hit 4600 speeds without breaking a sweat!

Good luck :)
