edit: added cliffs at bottom

my neighborhood is about a mile from a 'shady' apt complex... there have been a couple of stereos stolen from cars, some kids bikes stolen, etc. Someone got a license plate of someone that jumped into a car after trying to get into cars (the guy was testing doors apparently) and it was linked back to this apt complex. We had a neighborhood meeting about this and the local leo's are supposed to be making routine trips to help stop this crap.

On my way to costco today there were two guys walking into the neighborhood in the middle of my side of the road. Instead of going completely into the oncoming lane, I stayed in my lane, and moved over a little but enough so that I wouldn't get hit by the people in the other lane, but that they didn't have to actually use the sidewalk. I slowed waaaay down, maybe 5mph, waiting for these guys to move. They literally wouldn't.

I waited about 5-6 seconds and honked my air horns at them. One of them smacked the top of my hood, and was like "f-you white boy about to get his ass kicked."

Not thinking, I jumped out my car PISSED. They both ran away, but wtf. me against two guys = not great odds.

A much bigger deal is that I routinely CCW. I wasn't today because I rode the bike to work.. and before people start flaming - when I do carry, I am VERY careful about NOT being confrontational, etc.. nothing worse than flipping off someone who cuts me off, and the guy attacking me or something... then I've provoked the attack... But I jumped out before even thinking about that. If I had been carrying I could have gotten myself into quite a bit of trouble..

And so I don't have to point this out - I always park inside. There's no way for these people to come vandalize anything.

CLIFFS:

zixxer honks at a couple of idiots, then flips out when one hits his car. zixxer gets out of car pissed, they run away. zixxer realizes he probably would have gotten his ass kicked - or worse, been ccw and something happened

what really sucks is I don't live in the ghetto. I live next to the 1 low-income type apt in the area.

why?

EDIT:

and what would you have done?

What would you have EXPECTED to happen to you if you were walking down the middle of the road, and REFUSED to move when a car is heading for you?

Carrying a gun is dangerous, full stop. I'm not going to get into this argument but suffice to say that I'm forever greatful that I live in New Zealand where we have extremely strict gun laws.

I'm grateful I live in a country where I can be armed.

I regret that I don't live in texas, where you have the right to protect your property by force.

EDIT:

not even getting into what *could* have happened:

they were blocking the road to carjack me, kidnap me, shoot me, etc etc etc. Crap like that is why I normally do CCW.

Oh well. Life goes on. Not a big one in the grand scheme of things. You'll forget about it in a couple days/months/weeks/years depending on how much you get out.
