Not just tech support. Telemarketers and customer service are also outsourced.
Called Ritz Camera to verify an order. The guy was totally unintelligible.

"I am Abu & I will be giving you your customer service today. Would you like a slushie with your customer service?"

I already emailed my rant to Carly F for outsourcing CS to freaking India... Not that it will do any good, but I'm also not buying from HP/Compaq again.

I talked to them 3 times in the last month, they really said that...

BTW, one of my good friends from work is retiring & moving back to India to live like a Princess, she just got approval she's gone next month:(

See... it WOULD be bad, but in this case, its TRUE!

Boycott DELL and HP/COMPAQ, and whomever else outsources...

I work tech support for hp... and some people get on the phone and rejoyce that they can actually understand me. We get SOOOOO many complaints about India. I don't like outsourcing either, they dont leave case notes, dont do call backs, and piss customers off... GRRR

No kidding. I'm in the same boat. I had a pc that kept crapping out on me. I called support and told them what was wrong. They pretty much agreed (bad processor or bad ram). The said they could have someone come out and change them out for me. I told them not to worry about it. Just send me the parts and I can do it myself. They told me I had to take the parts from a pc that was already in service and use them for test parts. I was stunned. I've never heard of such a stupid policy. I had my boss call them, and they told him the same thing. I would NEVER buy from Dell.

I work for the outsourced TS dept of the third largest ISP in the country, (won't mention names) and luckily for them, they outsource from a company in Omaha, Nebraska. You can't get more legible than that. :D

Honestly, after hundreds of calls to dell, the FASTEST way to get parts replaced is just to say, you pulled it and replaced it and the machine runs fine. If you start with that, they will 99/100 times skip the whole half-a$sed attempt at troubleshooting. Also, make sure to qualify yourself first...like "Hi, I'm a CP working for a client here onsite and he's got a defective part(you are your own client). I pulled the bad part and put in a spare I had, it runs fine, so I need a replacement yadda yadda yadda. "

What harm could it do to try it eh?

Just called Dell today to return a dead WD 120 gig hard drive. Had to stay on the phone with a guy from India for about an hour explainning I need to return the dead HD for a new one under the 1 yr warranty. Then spend another 20 minutes verifying my address, etc. Bulk of the time was on repeating information!

Next time I definately will think twice ordering from Dell. Dell's customer service & tech support automated phone system sucks too btw! Kept getting the run around!

i needed help with Quickbooks and called tech support, they have outsourced the techs to India as well. Rocky tried to help me, but I couldn't get through to him no matter how simple my terminology. i was at my wit's end and wanted to see if he was in India and the guy says that he is sorry but he can't "disclose" his location. at least with Dell, they tell you where they are and stuff and they are helpful in a way.

I've had the same thing happen here. That asshole wanted me to test the 7 broken floppy drives I was calling in for warranty replacement. Fvck dell.
