So one of my 'friends' decides last week that he wants a laptop. No particular reason, he just wants to say he has one. Now, this guy also plays games on a regular basis, like RTCW, and many sports games. So of course he wants the laptop to play every game out there and for the next five years. Yeah okay, whatever. Get a GF2 Go or something and a P3 1.2 and a lot of ram. Well, now he doesnt want to spend over $1500. No way in hell he's gonna find a laptop under $1500 that will satisfy his needs.
Everytime we're both online at the same time, he sends me a link to a laptop and asks me if its good or not. If I say yea or nay, he has to ask why. And of course, he wants to know "can this laptop plug into a TV?" "Does this laptop have a floppy drive?" "Can this laptop burn CDs?" I told him what to look for: a 1GHz+ proc, at least 256mb of ram, and a GF2 or Radeon video card. But still he send me these links and refuses to look for himself.
Now apparently he's getting bored of searching for laptops and instead wants me to search for some good ones for him!!! His reasoning? Well, I know more than he does (granted) so it will be easier if I just give him the links to good laptops.
Right... he wants me to look for something that in no way effects me, when he has all the available resources, including an uberfast computer and the internet, just because hes lazy?
Gah!! Stop bothering me! This is why being the local computer geek has its disadvantages.. if no one is looking for you to "fix their internet;" thery want your advice on stuff. What ever happened to research? How do they think I know as much as I do?
