Damn it, everytime i get up form a chair i have to spend 5 mins trying to loosen / stretch my calves in order to have my feet flat on the ground when walking....

Is there any good way to remove the lactic acid from my calves? Ive been in a lot pain for the past 2 days...

You can run it out (yes honestly), but the pain will come back once your run has worn off. Give it time. It's a good feeling anyway. It's like the hurt that you welcome, because you know you're more of a man for it.

When I used to personal train, the people in the class would always be hating life the first few days. The real pain didn't even set in until day two. Lots of water, and stretching will help.

banana, water, and stretch. and take it easy next time, if the pain is lasting 3 days then u are doing something really wrong. and stretch before and after you run.

A 30 min bike ride while keeping your HR low and spinning low gears will help a LOT. Trust me on this. ;)

yip lactic acid does not cause muscle soreness. What you are experincing are micro tears in your muscle fibers.

"a good feeling anyway".

Hrmmh, have you ever squatted, I mean really squatted ?

I remeber I took my roommate for "leg day" for the first time.

Actually, first a little background. Leg day has damn near cultish connotation among my peer group. Leg day is divine. Leg day is the day everyone loves to hate. Leg day is pain. Leg day is hell. A good leg day is 2 hours of Nirvana. A great leg day is a 2 hour orgasm.

Pain.

Pain.

Every week.

Anyways, the first time I took my roommate to a basic leg day, it was hilarious.
I have him do like 10 sets of 10 reps of forced failure. ie. A weight is picked where you get 10 by the skin of your teeth on the first set. 10 is possible the 2nd. By the third you re lucky to swing 8. The trick is, I force him to finish all 10 for every set, so I just spotted him from behind (he s much tinier dude, so it was easy).

My mistake.

He started bitching around the 5th set, so I just started screaming at him. Fine, he finished it. Then we slamm the leg press / hack squat. Or attempt to. He did one set and stopped. Fine I thought, I m tired and want to go out drinking, we ll go home early today. Next week, no excuses. Fine.

I m all done, he s all done. He stands up. He instantly falls over. LOL. I help him up. He s walking bowl legged. Like there is a big load in his pants.

Get to the first flight of stairs. He takes 2 steps. Falls face first into the stairs.

I help him up the stairs.

He starts moaning about how he s gonna puke.

I hustle him outside. He starts vomitting all over the front of the gym. Campus security rolls by (we re at college) I wave em off, cause I know them, and nobody parties in sweats and a t shirt.

I get him back and he can t climb onto his bunk. I toss him up there, and he just passes out till the next morning.

He wakes up, attempts to get down, takes one step on the ladder and crashes to the floor.

Ouch.

He get s up and goes into the bathroom and starts screaming. I figure he s pulled or broke something. I rush in, his pants are around his ankles and he s screaming..

" I CAN T SIT DOWN YOU F*CK!! I CAN T TAKE A F*CKEN SH*T!!"

So then I instruct him on proper post leg day poopage. No one get s it the first time so he just sorta falls on the toilet. More screams of agony.

Anyways, the most the pain will stay around is 2 weeks. It becomes bearable after the first week.

But I know exactly where you are man.

I did 4 sets at 150 after not doing legs for months. Last night wasnt too bad, i looked like i was recovering from a mild stroke. Today I was walking around on my toes because the calves wouldnt stretch far enough for the feet to rest flat on the surface. The crapp part about the whole deal is if i sit in front of the computer for 5 mins, i have to spend another 5 streching my legs back to the factory specs to be able to walk....

oh yeah milks for 400mg of potassium per glass :)

Take about 4 Calcuim pills with 2 glasses of water. By morning, you should feel much better.

Yup just got back to the gym Monday, first time in a month...only deep squatted 225X3 sets, Rom.deadlift@275X3 sets, and leg pressed 8 plates and a 25 on each sideX3 sets. I felt like a train ran over my legs due to DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness)... actually delaying squat/back day to tomorrow, going to just do cardio till this sht heals! sux man doesn't it

If you're running, you should stretch and then do a cool down mile. If you're
lifting weights you should stretch and do some easy paced cardio, cycling or
jogging. working the lactic acid into the muscles helps with the micro tearing
and builds more muscle, you just have to work it in and keep it from pooling up
which causes more tearing.

Yeah, you're feeling the tearing of the muscles. After each workout, you could eat stuff with Potassium and Calcium, as well as drinking water. My dad also said that if you sweat a lot, it's good to have something with salts in it to replenish yourself, but I'm not sure if that's absolutely true.

After each of my volleyball practices and kickboxing, I do "cool-down" stretching, and have fruit yogurt, a banana, and a cup of water when I get home. Maybe I'm not training hard enough (yeah right ;)), but I havn't had any soreness in a while.
