I haven't kept up with all the ATI products in the last couple of years (since the last time I bought a graphics card). I'm now looking to buy one and would like a quick tutorial on 9800 vs 9600 vs X800 vs x600, etc. and Pro vs. non, 256 MB vs 128 MB, etc, etc.

As I don't wish to spend hours learning the intricacies of every model available, does anyone have a link to a site that shows them ranked by performance?

Thanks in advance,
Kirk

256MB vs 128MB
VRAM has very little to do with performance, unless of course if you have too little of it. 128MB was the standard, but 256 is now the new standard, but only only to be used by highend cards. Cards that are ok to use 256MB are 9800XT, X800, Pro,XL, XT,PE, X850, Pro, XT, PE. If you buy other than that, it's not worth it.

PRO vs NON
Usually, Pro equals a clockspeed increase. It is so with the 9800 series, but the X800 series is a bit more complicated, and not uniform throughout the lineup.

X800XTPE: 16 Pixel Pipelines; 6 Vertex Pipelines; 256bit; GDDR3; 256mb; 520/1150; PCI-E
X850XT: 16 Pixel Pipelines; 6 Vertex Pipelines; 256bit; GDDR3; 256mb; 520/1120; AGP/PCI-E
X850XTPE: 16 Pixel Pipelines; 6 Vertex Pipelines; 256bit; GDDR3; 256mb; 540/1180; AGP/PCI-E

Thanks all for the info -- does anyone else find there to be way too many versions of the cards? Seems they're confusing the market even while trying to cover all the price points.

Well i dont know what ATI's motive is. It seems that Nvidia has your typical line up out. However, ATI seems to be shooting themselves in the foot, more times than one.
