Stick a fork in me. We're done.

For the last 4 weeks , we've been trying to install AT&T dsl service at the Mom's.

She's retired PacBell and thus gets these great come on offers from AT&T, and since they're going to be parking their butts at home for a couple of years, she thought she would take advantage of the Satellite and the High Speed Intarweb......So far, so good right?

WELLLLLL, the dish guy shows up, wires the rooms, points the thing the right way and bada bing, we're in DVR Dish goodness.

DSL modem and install package shows up, I go up, connect everything, get started on the reg process and I get dumped offline. And never ever does it come back for me.
I never complete the registration process, so far as I know.
First service call was ignored, a no show.
Second Appointment , the tech called in and convinced mom that it was a filter not connected, and never showed.
FINALLY, We get a tech out, she goes and REWIRES all the phone jacks, gets signal up for half an hour, and then, as she leaves, it dumps.
When I called them the next day, they sent a tech who could climb the pole and redo the house line. The first tech then came back and got the modem online as she was taking it personal at this point. Props to her , btw, I guess that's what that internal wiring plan service will get you.
This was on the 26th. It was online since then until this afternoon, when I went up there to get Mom's account registered, emails up and so forth (you know, what a good son does :D)....

I no sooner had the fricken set up disc in when it.... say it in unison with me everyone........ dropped offline, and never came back. :brokenheart:  :disgust:

I must now find alternative high speed in the Auburn,CA , an area devoid of Comcast...., my Sacramento provider, with whom I am happy, btw......

Who knows what about Starstream? ARRRGH.

I seem to remember the Pacbell guy pulling his hair along with new wire at the condo in the Bay Area also when I had DSL there....

< wanders off, mumbling something about selling the sizzle and not getting steak.....

CLIFFS:

1.Argh!
2.Mom needs Broadband. She goes with the ex employee package, bundled dish and Intarweb along wireless and landline.
3.Connections on the pole cause numerous problems with DSL. Techs fail to climb pole until the 3rd visit.
4. Fourth and final attempt to register ends with a dropped dsl signal, despite being connected for 36 hours previous. Mom pulls he plug on the DSL gambit.
5.ahhhh, good timess, </sigh>

New modem? If the wiring has been redone, hardware is what's left. I'm surprised they didn't swap that thing out right away.

sucks for youand your mom. I haven't had any problems with Pacbell/sbc/att dsl. Been with them for nearly 10 years.

I read about people's horror stories on dslreports and I just dunno what to say, maybe I'm lucky or something. But while I have no problems with them, when I had what is now comcast cable everyone else was happy I hated them. they'd screw up, missed appointments, cut my cable for no apparent reason. Guess thigns just balance out.

whats her attenuation, signal to noise ratio, etc?

Any transmit or receive errors on the line?

try www.dslreports.com and post it on the forum that pertains to you. They are good and get things fixed.
