I checked... closest house to me does not have the option of DSL.....
Cable is completely out of the question (miles away)
I'm doomed!

I thought before: "I'll get satellite broadband when I'm living out there"
Well.... I might be willing to pay 600 up front, then 60 a month...
IF I was getting anything even close to what I'm getting now....
But, from the reviews, it's not that good...
and from the directway site... it's only about 6 or 7 times faster than dial-up.
Seriously... can you call it broadband if it's that slow?!

In the UK, yes.

Our "broadband" services are generally 256/128 or 512/256, with some paying for 1024/256. A few companies provide 2048/256, but I don't know anyone on those packages.

Confused

You looked into wireless broadband in the area? Seems to be a thing that's growing slowly in rural areas for availability.

What do you think "directway" is? 😛 Satellite internet.

Even 6x faster than dialup is pretty significant, though. I mean, there are 256k DSL packages. While the latency with satellite will be horrible compared to DSL, ~300kbps is a lot better than less than 56kbps.

Depending on how good or bad your lines are, I wouldn't be surprised if you can only maintain something like 31200bps. Been there, done that.

In that case, I believe that you would happily fork over the 60$/mo for something around a 256k connection......

beeing broadbandless isnt too bad. I had a 10/10mbit line in sweden, moved to ireland and didnt have broadband for 4 months. Now I have a crappy DSL line capped @ 8GB per month.... Will get 100/100 mbit when I move back to sweden 😀 :cookie:

In Israel, yes.

Our "broadband" services are generally 256/64 or 768/96, with some paying for 1536/128. A few companies provide 2048/96, but I don't know anyone on those packages.

Hell it sounds like you will have plenty to do regarding the farm other than waste your time on the internet.

They offer wireless where I live. 1 Mb up and down. It goes for 50 bucks a month. I'd check and see if its offered for this guy too. It beats the hell out of satellite, low pings, lower cost, much better upload bandwidth too.

Yeah, I feel you man..
I was used to 100Mb up/100Mb down VDSL and now I'm stuck at 256Kb /1.5Mb ADSL although I'm paying twice more. Ahh...it sucks.

pakistan here, my broadband is 128kb up and like 32 down or something!! but i thank god i have broadband here.

was on a university 10mbit connection for years, then to 1500/768 dsl and 3000/1500 cable after that. so its quite a drop.

but you adjust. it all becomes relative. when i download at 16kb/s i'm like WOW. whereas before if i got 600kb/s i'd be WOW.

The people saying wireless internet mean modems with Cell connectivity I believe. It's been around but is only now beginning to be used.

No
They mean WI-FI

I have a friend who lives in the middle of nowhere. They have Direcway and the speeds are basically the same as 1.5m/128k DSL.

I have Direcway on average my downloads are 120-175kbs a sec pretty darn fast, but uploads are slow faster than 56K, but still not DSL/Cable fast. I gave up on waiting for broadband in my area 3yrs and nothing to show for it I coughed up the $600 for it... well worth it 🙂
