Topic says it all. I went to install the new Win98 Voodoo3 drivers tonight, so I set out by going to uninstall the 3dfx tools already on there like I normally do but it won't let me!!!!

It gives me the following error message:

<< Error applying transform. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid. >>

So...I messed around for a little while and I renamed the "3dfx Tools.msi" file to "3dfx Tools.msix" and it just asks me to locate the original file again. I did a search and there's no other instances of this file anywhere.

I've tried changing my Display adapter to Standard VGA and totally removing it with no luck. Anyone run into something similar in the past and could shed some info would be great.

well, "unname" your "renames"

don't use windows' uninstall routine

use 3dfx's

go to Start-Programs-3dfx tools and select the "uninstall"

should be okay then.

That's what I did. The 3dfx own uninstall.

I also renamed it back, figured that would be assumed. And no that didn't work.

I read that you don't need to uninstall 3dfx tools to install the new drivers, thats the way it will be from now on.

Well, when I click setup it tells me there is an old version of 3dfx tools there which need to be removed first. And if I ever want to put in a nVidia card I won't be able to remove the 3dfx tools.

same problem... here is the solution that worked for me:

try this:

-Delete the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\8E97A917696BEB846B1937307F99E18F

-Then install the latest tools, reboot and then immediately uninstall it again, reboot and install it again.

-The install, uninstall, install ensures the tools gets updated correctly and all the old DLLs get cleaned out.

oops! just saw you had a voodoo3.. i have voodoo5 but maybe it works the same? try it!
