GRRRR.....

Were in a major time crunch and need to co-locate a server off site by Friday morning. The head DBA has been doing his thing and I was ready to build a beautiful server to be sent out. This was gonna be a dual 1Ghz P3 in a jet black 2U rackmount case. I just dropped the two CPUs into the Tyan Tiger LE and was ready to put in the DIMMs when some idiot managed to sneak in for a look.

The 1Ghz P3 Retails come with some big mofo heatsinks with a huge fan. The two are pretty hefty and add considerable weight to the mobo. I guess the idiot wanted to take a closer look and he PICKED UP EVERYTHING BY ONE OF THE HEATSINKS. Before I could stop him I heard a "CRACK" as the plastic lug on the socket broke. The whole motherboard crashed to the floor and landed on the second heatsink which cracked off a lug on that one too.

I swear I was about to cry at that moment. To say that I am pissed right now would be an understatement. I have never contemplated workplace violence before but it took everything I had to prevent myself from planting a fist in his nose. :|

EDIT: TYPO!!! :| It;s a 2U case not a 1U

Hehehe, Inter@ctive Week had an article about workplace violence last week, pretty amusing 🙂

Make him eat the rest of it and hand him the bill 😉

aaaAAAAhhhHHHhhh!!!!

I feel your pain. If you don't know what your doing KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THE EQUIPMENT!!!!! Who was this person and why were they lurking about your open equipment??

Sounds like its time for a good ol' fashioned @ss whippin'

Ouch! Sorry to hear that man!

Windogg, have you ever considered putting up a notice or sending out an email to your company saying, "If you break something out of curiosity, waste hours of my time because you decided to be an utter moron, or a combination of both- I have the right to beat you senseless." If not, I think it's time. 😉

Hey Windogg, don't you guys have a secured area? I know we do here. No one gets into the data/telco room at ALL without me being there.

I feel your pain Windogg. I'm just wondering how you can have this many idiots working there. Something bad seems to happen to you everyday.

For some strange reason I'm picturing Windogg using this guy's forehead to pick up with splinters and debris off the floor.

I'm still shaking I am so ticked. I was not in the telco/server room because there are people doing upgrades to our data lines as well as the entire building. They are pulling fiber in and may have to move around the copper and that is the reason we needed to co-locate because data service at night over the next few weeks could not be guaranteed. 🙁

I was the DBA's office at the time and the whole setup must've caught the guy's eyes.

Looking at the mobo it's looks like a total loss. Two of the clips to the DIMMs don't seem to function correctly anymore.

Oh, and the idiot was like, "It's not so bad, look there is still some of the plastic left. Just give it me and I can glue it back on. Good as new in a few hours. Don't get mad. It's fixable." GRRRRRR............

The two chips look like they are intact. Thankfully Intel makes a pretty sturdy chip. The heatsinks also look intact but the fan on heatsink that hit the floor is cracked. The worst part is we'll have to eat the loss. Can't RMA stuff when it's caused by an ID10T error.

I hope he has to pay for the loss of time and equipment and has to have "DUMBA$$" tattooed on his forehead.

:disgust:
