Ouch, what happened?

I had an ingrown toenail which I didn't bother getting treated for years, but decided to have something done about. It's a nice bloody mess now that they cut part of the toe off and trimmed the nail, the bandage is partly red, and the painkiller I took has not yet started working :/

even better reason to start drinking

I don't drink anymore, booze never did much for me anyway. Besides, I'm not going to get up and walk on it if I don't have to 😛

I had two cut out when I was young.

Be REAL glad you aren't in the service. I had the Corpsmen cut one out in USMC boot camp. NOT pretty. They just sprayed it with Bacteen (sp), then took a scalpel, cut the toenail about 1/4 inch over from the edge, then took hemostats and YANKED IT OUT!!

I never asked them to do it again. I got an exacto knife, and now I just do it myself (not as radical as THEY did however)

What exactly did they do? Did they just cut off the edge of the nail then cut off where it begins to grow and hope it doesnt return? I heard if it grows back you have to get it frozen off or something (the beginning of the part of the nail that isn't supposed to be growing). Curious cuz I might have to do that... I still have vikoden from my last surgery although 🙂

It had cut the flesh, so the toe was growing over the nail partially. They first cut the excess flesh away, then just cut the nail to what it should be.

If they had done it without anesthetics I'd have inserted the scalpel where the sun doesn't shine to the person doing it.
