I come home to 25 messages on the machine...all of them from this damn fax machine. The number is blocked, my phone co. can't do anything other than change my number (costs me $ and I'll have to contact a zillion people to let them know of the change) and the goddamn phone has rung every 5 min since I've gotten home. I tried disconnecting the phone for an hour or so, but they just start right up again as soon as I plug it back in. WTF can I do to stop these calls?!!? Anyone know of a site where I could d/l the "fax speak" version of "F*CK OFF!!" or something? This is about to drive me insane. I want this bastard's head on a platter. :|:|:|

EDIT 1/15- Home PC/fax thingy is now operational. Thanks to all who offered advice. Turned out to a software issue (ie- the XP Fax software sucks). Went with a shareware proggie, just faxed myself from work and everything works fine. Hopefully I'll get a call or two from this asshole today so I can get the legal machine in motion. :D

back up there, the phone number is blocked so why is it still getting through to you? and why not contact the owner of said fax machine? i'm sure they could find out who it is.

Hook up a fax modem to your PC, receive the fax.

See if it gives you anything useful.

This happened to me for like 3 months.... it sucked! But it usually happened when I wasn't home. One day it just stopped. I hope it stops soon for you too... it sucks when someone thinks your phone number is a fax number.... :(

No, the number of the fax machine that keeps calling my home phone is blocked (I don't have a fax). So when I dial *69, I can't get the number of the fax, so I can't contact it. MCI can't do sh*t either. I'm seriously considering calling the cops or GBI if this keeps up all night.

This has been happening on and off forever. It'll stop for a while and then start back up. Usually it's just a couple calls, but this has literally been one call every 5 min on the nose. I'm about to lose it.

Viper: I don't have a fax machine, nor do I have access to one. Other suggestions?

He meant for you to install a modem in your computer & get fax software, then receive the fax. The cover sheet should have the info of the person or company sending the fax. Then it's up to you what to do with this information. ;)

That sucks man i get a call from fax machines that are on 4 different numbers that show up on my call display but if i try to call them it says the number is out of service. Good luck with your problems, My phone company claimed to be unable to help me as well. On the upside my calls are down to 1 - 2 a day.

good luck

Happened to me once, and I eventually just hooked up my modem and received the fax. It ended up being an ATM repair schedule. Probably would have been useful to would-be thieves. I hung onto it until the schedule was outdated and then tossed it.

It never happened again. Someone must have fat-fingered the number.

Configuring the WinXP fax software now....just have to go dig up a modem. It's been so damn long since I've used one, I'm not sure where it is.

Haha
True that. If it happened to me these days I'd be screwed. I don't even think I have a modem in my house!
Then again I have no landline so it's probably not a big issue, although I suppose someone could accidentally try to fax my cellphone. That would really suck.

Fausto, we were getting the same thing here, a Company called Showcase Real Estate TV. We had to get BellSouth security involved.

BellSouth Security Center . They work best via E-mail believe it not. Just fill out all the info on the website.

I worked at BellSouth for awhile--they do respond more quickly via email. When you finally get through to a rep, make sure you get their extension, and if you want to be sure to get the same person, get thier CUID. The Annoyance Call Center is really the only thing to do--if the call is blocked, BellSouth's equipment can't read it either. There really is nothing BellSouth can do. A lady that had worked there 20+ years told me that if you keep getting fax tones when you answer the phone alternately push the star and pound buttons. She said that it would "reset" the fax machine. I don't know if that's B.S. or not, but that's what she told people. Hope that helps!!

Why dont you look up a fax number at a Kinkos or something, then have your number forwarded to that for about an hour or so. Once the fax goes through it should stop.

Okay, I mooched a fax/modem from a neighbor (I didn't even have one  ) and configured it with XP's built-in fax software. We'll see if I can get this f*cker's number now and make his life miserable. :D
