I think my car blew a head gasket on the way home tonight...

On AAA's website, they say "towing to the garage of your choice"

But, in the fine print farther down, it says the car will be towed to the garage of the place providing the emergency roadside service. What a pain in the a$$... Midas towed my car. So, my car will be looked at (apparently) by Midas in the morning. Should I call them and tell them not to waste their time because their prices are ridiculously unreasonable? I'll bet some of the coolant got on the rotors and the rotors will have to be changed :p (according to Midas)

I've used AAA and never had a problem. I tell them where to go, and they go...

Same here. My ex-gf even used them to tow her car from near school to her house (just within 100miles, she has the premium service) so her brother could take a look at it.

There are 2 levels of AAA service, basic and plus.
If you have a basic membership, the hookup and first 3 miles of your tow are included. A fee (generally $2 a mile) is assessed by the towing company for any mileage there after, however, they will tow it anywhere you tell them. A plus membership includes the hook and 100 miles however, they'll tow it to Mars if you're willing to cough up the $2 a mile.
Remember, Pizza, it's your car, not AAA's or Midas'. Call the towing company and tell them where you want it towed and just hand the driver your card when he get's there. If he gives you any sh!t, call him a n00b and tell him to STFU and tow the car.

I'ld accept their best estimate, since it's there, without dismantling anything too far, if at all and then get another. Another tow job may pay for itself in time and aggravation.

I thought the basic plan towed you for 10 miles then everything after that they charge you. Last time when my old Toyota pick up truck broke down they towed it like 10 miles to a local garage for free.

The guy did you a favor or it was his garage.

It's the hook and 3 miles.

So... couldn't you get another free tow to some other place from the Midas garage?

I guess he did me a favor, it wasn't his garage he told me he knew of this Toyota specialist and I said that sounded like a good idea.

Anyone know how much more a AAA+ membership costs? With all the driving I do for work it's going to be inevitable I'm going to break down in the middle of nowhere and the only garage in 3 miles will be Joes werapeyourwallet garage.

i know for a fact that my membership is 5 miles (used it several times), but i guess there are different plans for different people.

I have the plus and they'll tow 100 miles and anywhere I wanted. I usually get a Vern's towing truck when I have to call. I think that is the AAA company of choice, at least in California.

Basic is 3 miles OR the closest AAA repair facility, Plus is anywhere of your choice within 100 miles (for free, if your willing to pay per mile you can go anywhere:D). Plus is an extra $20-$30 a year:D

How can you get Plus? I've never found the option anywhere, and since I've needed to use my sister's Plus account a couple times in the past few months, I'd like to get my own.

If you have a sprint cell phone, you can get roadside for $5 a month. Not as many features as AAA but longer towing option. I've used mine a few times...
