AA KILLS q4 performance

VIAN, you're right. I believe D3 defaulted to 8xAF in HQ, and Q4 appears to default to 4xAF in HQ.

Does that command apply AF on selected, game-specified textures, as the in-game HQ settings do (as opposed to driver-forced AF, which apparently applies it to all textures, including those that don't need it)?

Yes especially if you have a Nvidia card because they dont have hardware help to render AA like ATI, thus Nvidia cards have a higher preformance hit when using AA.

Uh oh...you shouldn't have said that. Its like Rollo's call.

LOL

Anyway, I am LOVING Quake 4. I bought that, FEAR, and Serious Sam2 lately and can easily say it's my favorite of the lot.

I'm enjoying the single player a lot so far, and the multiplayer is exactly what I expected.

BTW RAM doesn't matter in Quake 4

As a Doom3 based game, the way to smoother Q4 is SLI.
SLI does what RAM and CPU do not
