AA and AF only in games?

Was thinking of getting a Radeon 9600 Pro for ~$150 if possible, but a Ti4200 can give me the same performance for ~$50 less (and even more performance if OC'd)...w/o AA and AF, of course. I also have always used Nvidia cards over ATI. I really don't game very often and was wondering if AA and AF are only beneficial in games? Or does it also help in everyday work, watching DVD's., doing Photoshop, etc.?

Any links are appreciated, too! I like to read up on this stuff, but can't always find it. Thanks!

EDIT: Where can I find pictures comparing image quality of AA/AF on/off? The extra eyecandy may not even be necessary for me, anyways.

If you don't plan to really game, I'd save your money. I'm pretty sure AA/AF can only be used in games..I don't really even see why you'd really need or want to use it for photoshop applications. Here's a link to some shots of anisotropic filtering.

Edit: stole this link from another thread 😀
