AA&AF in playstation

Does AA and AF affect say, Playstation emulators, i took some pix and can't seem to notice. But i did notice that when i had AA/AF up all the way, the game did glitch more, what is the reason for this. I dont' see a difference at all in visual quality, the lines @ aa/off are still Jaggy as 8xs aa.
