Subject: Please help - A8v Deluxe and Crucial VS512MB400 problem

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello all:
I just upgraded my system to an Athlon 4000+
Asus A8V deluxe
2 120gb SATA drive (non Raid - one running windows XP prp)
2 DVD-ROMS
1 80 gig IDE drive
Verto GForce FX video card

2 Pairs of VS1GBKIT400 (4 VS512MB400s)

I constantly get a message stating "New CPU inserted Into your system"
Press F1 to setup, f2 to load defaults

I have gone in and set up the memory to settings suggested on
askramguy.com:
Cas latency 2.5
TRCD 3T
TRP 3T
TRAS8T
DDR Ref Voltage 2.7

when I reboot the same message appears and the settings are back to
AUTO (it keeps the time and date but also loses other customized
settings such as the SATA disk being the HDD to boot from)! I have
cleared CMOS numerous times - after which I get the bad checksum
error(g in and configure yet again and i am back to 'new cpu
found'...flashed the board with the newest BIOS and when that did not
help I went back to the old BIOS.

I've called Asus 3 times and the last time they said that I need to
call Crucial and get the latency settings and that will fix it. I doubt
this is it but does anyone have any recommended settings? Has anyone
else seen this problem?

I can eventually get into windows. I ran CPU-z and all looks good- also
memtest.

Thanks for all suggestions.

Try changing the motherboard battery if your board continues to lose settings. That board has been out awhile, so maybe the battery is bad. Also, try lower ram voltage, 2.5 or 2.6.

Thanks. First call to ASUS I was told to change the battery. No go. Is CMOS kept in the DIMMs? I find that it won't even keep the diable Logo setting if I reboot again!

Cmos is for the bios chip. Maybe your's is bad. Asus can send you a new one. The speech reporter is also picky about power supply voltages. That's why I stopped using asus boards a few years ago.

I have the same damn problem with post reporter +A8V rev2 bios1008 and a A64/3200 w/AntecTru380 everytime I boot I get a "system failed cpu test". I even disabled post reporter and it still comes back. System runs Prime for hours .

Have you flashed your bios to the latest????

Yes - flashed the BIOS to the latest and then tried the new BETA. Asus techs seem to just try to cut you off right away- if you get through. And if they take your name and number don't expect a call back.
I'm not getting a speech report - just a 'new CPU is installed each time'. After I get correct settings from COSAIR I'll call back and demand a new BIOS chip.

My power supply is an ANTEC True Power 380W which should be adequate. Like I said, once in Windows it runs like a charm.
