I've had this board for over a year now and when I built the system I was not able to figure out where to install the wires for my front USB port. I now need access to that front port. My computer box front USB port has 2 connectors. 1 is a 3 wire connector, red wire (VCC), white wire (U-) and green wire (U+) and 2nd connector is 1 wire black (GND).

On page 2-28 of the manual, it shows how to install the supplied USB Header for 2 additional USB ports (USB56 or USB78). Do I install the front USB connectrs to the USB 2.0 Header pins (USB56 or USB78) at the bottom of the motherboard? It appears that each set (USB56) & (USB78) is for 2 USB ports with 5 prongs on the top & 4 prongs at the bottom. If this is the correct area to use, does it matter which one I use USB56 or USB78 and whether I use the top or bottom prongs.

Now that I typed this out, I guess I've answered my questions as it seems the bottom of the USB56 is for the 5th USB port - Voltage, -,+ and GND.

I would appreciate it if someone would confirm this.

Thanks in advance!

I went ahead and connected the connectors in the USB5 area and inserted a 1 gig flash drive.

"The following message pops up: USB device is not recognized one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows is not recognize it."

Under device manager, it shows the USB port as an Unknown Device. I tried to install the USB driver from the A8V cd rom of drivers but windows says a better driver is installed. But the properties says a driver isn't installed for this device. I know the USB ports in the back of my computer work so what am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Either I fried my flash drive or it was a coincidence that my flash drive died when I used the front USB port. I tested the flash drive in another computer and I get the same error of unknown device. So I'm not going to chance frying another device until I figure out the proper wire connections for the front port.

If anyone has this mobo and/or knows how to install the front USB port connectors, any help would be greatly appreciated.

the RED is the power. the green and white, the signal and the black, the ground.

In your manual, you should have a drawing of the USB connector. With pins maybe labelled like VCC, s+, s-, gnd.

I thing it is pretty clear. VCC is the red and the power. then the signal line(white and green) should be connected to the + and- that are not power related. Then, there is the ground.

Your connection should look like RED, WHITE, GREEN, BLACK. any thing else has either fried the devices and/or the USB controller.

Each connector support 2 USB plugs, that's why there is 2 row. you can use either one. The last GND pins that is alone is not needed. you start with the voltage one and keep going on the same row. Nothe that I did not look into your manual, but it seems to me from your description it use normal 9 pins connector
