Hi,

First of all I want to say that this forum rocks and has saved my a-- several times now

I have finished building my photoediting workstation which is an A8v deluxe asus board, amd 3500+ processor, 2 g patriot ram using two 1 g sticks, matrox 550 card, Aspire 520watt ps. WD 36G raptor Os drive..seagate 200g secondary ide drive.,

The machine seems to be stable and everything works. My son overclocked 10% in the bios to 2.4 ghz. The machine is definitely faster than my old atlon 1800+ It does most photo operations at least twice as fast. The processor is running at 37 deg. C at idle. I am showing 11.9 volts at the processor. Is there any more tweaking I can do? I am not a guru and really am intimidated by that memtest.com site. But maybe there are some simple tests I can do to evaluate my machine. The system seems to have great cooling..I am running two case fans, stock cpu cooler, and three ps fans which also help draw more air out.

One quirk is with a cheap usb2 card reader I have...it took 7 min to write 1.2 GB of data to the HD..I thought it should be faster than that.

All I am running on this machine are Photoshop, Capture one , Bibble, and DPP. and some minor processing programs...I will not surf on this machine.

No one has any ideas? Btw...here's a quirk. I have my external card reader hooked up. If you leave media in the reader and try to reboot...you get an error message....install correct boot disk and reboot again. So it seems the card reader takes over over the primary SATA drive.

Running memtest isn't that hard. Do you have a floppy drive? If not, then you need to burn a bootable CD. Memtest is a good program to make sure your memory is working ok. The default timings for most fancy memory out there right now is 2225. I've had to relax my timings to 2336 because AMD chips have problems running at those fast timings. I made a web site detailing my build, it's an FX53, but you can get some ideas of what I'm doing. If your system is running at 2225 timings, and the memory is having errors, you may have random crashes. You may have to relax those timings depending on your memory. If you don't want memtest, then try Prime95 found here.

To run it, you install the software, tell it you're just testing, then run a torture test running a blend over night.
The 10% OC thing works great, and that's what I use to OC my system. Just make sure your temps are not above 65c at load. To check this, you run the Asus Probe monitor.
Here's my site with a bunch of screen shots. You can see what I've done, and then decide what settings are best for you.

The only differance is that your machine is at 2.2 with a multiplier of 11. Mine is at 2.4 with a multiplier of 12.

Hey thanks,

I will use my machine mainly for photoshop, so I don't think the load will be nearly as high. So far, it seems quite fast. What is cpu-Z?
