Alright, first things let it be known that this is my first attempt at building my own computer.

Here is my setup:
Asus A8V Deluxe
Athlon 64 3500+ (withZalman cpu fan + heatsink)
2x512mb Kingston Hyperx 400mhz
Sparkle 550w
74gb WD 10,000rpm
250gb WD 7200rpm
dvd r/rw and cdrw
Audigy 2 sound card
6800gt (will have soon)

Ok so first i connected everything, all power, HDDs (to the SATA 1 and 2 ports). Connected the roms on the same IDE cable and plugged them into the secondary IDE. I put my old geforce fx 5200 vid card into the computer.

Then i noticed that my PSU had a 24 pin mobo connector. So i bought a 24 to 20 pin adaptor and plugged my mobo in. My psu also has 8 pins for the cpu connector (i got the wrong one... this one was made for dual xeons, but i was trying to make this work). So i just plugged the left 4 pins in (they fit the mobo shapes) and tried to turn it on. Everything started and went for about .25 secs (all fand turned on) and then went dead. I set all my jumper settings to default.... same problem. However the green light is always on in the lower right corner of the mobo.

Then i unplugged everything except the cpu, mobo, vid card, and the cup fan. Didn't turn on (but little green light (LGL) did).

Then i took my really old TNT2 rage vid card and put it in...... nothing but the LGL.

Then i took a 200w psu from my sisters computer and connected the cpu (onmly 4 pin) and the mobo. it turned on for 5-6 secs then turned off.... but LGL was still on.

Then i switched the jumper to clear CMOS and then tried to turn it on.... nothing at all but LGL.

then i put jumper back and tried turning it on.... nothing but LGL.

Then i posted on these forums.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea what else to do.

You only need to use the 20 pin atx plug and 4 pin square 12v plug on the motherboard. That 8 pin connector may be your problem. Don't know if you damaged the board, but I would remove the motherboard battery for a few seconds to reset the bios. I doubt that you hurt the power supply, unless you have any burnt odors. Also the tnt2 may be a 3.3 volt agp card, which your board may not work with. Some Intel chipset boards may be damaged by using a 3.3 card in a 1.5 volt agp slot. I recommend my celistica 9600se card ($60 at newegg). It has agp 8x support and directx 9.0 support. It should also work in most agp 4x slots. Go back and try posting again with a newer video card and your new power supply, not the 200 watt unit, which is way too low for athlon 64. Also, read your motherboard manual cover to cover before doing anything else if this is your first build.

ok I am gonna RMA the psu and get real atx12v one.

So i took my mobo out of the case... when i was taking it out i noticed that when i was putting it in one fo the brass stands was not present and that the top corner of the mobo was in contact with the metal of the case. Do you think i could have shorted the mobo?
