A8V Deluxe and registered memory

So it's a long and sad story, but I have a pin rotted FX53 (a not-quite-so-sealed Vapochill install and an untimely 2-week vacation during monsoon season started it's demise) and a questionable ASUS SK8V motherboard (don't know if there are pins that are still in the socket and/or if the socket has corrosion problems) that is missing the stock heatsink installation hardware (had to remove it for the vapochill clamshell).

This leads me to just 1 conclusion: new cpu and new motherboard.

Only problem is that I've got 2G (4x 512M) of Corsair TwinX 1024RE-3200LLPT registered memory that I don't really want to give up. Since AMD shut down the FX53 (good luck finding it for less than $800 anymore) I don't have too many cost-effective options that include being able to use the old memory unless the A8V (or other 939 board you guys might know of with AGP, on board SATA RAID and an extra SATA connection--3 min) can use registered memory.

Every google search comes back with pant loads of articles that say the 939 doesn't require registered memory anymore, but I want to know if it's even possible. It'd just be adding insult to injury to have to scrap 2G of perfectly good memory and have to add $250 to the shopping list or new memory as well.

Socket-939 platform is tuned for unbuffered memory; I wouldn't bet on a 939 board's BIOS to handle or even expect Registered DIMMs.

That leaves you with two options: Get an Opteron 1xx and a matching socket-940 board to go with your RAM, or change your RAM to get onto the cheaper socket-939 platform.
