A8N5X - sound not working

Tried installing the lastest AC97 driver and still no sound at all (from the speaker).

I then tried to put in a cheapo CMI8738 PCI sound card but whenever the computer crashes whenever I am installing the driver.

Is there something wrong with the mobo?

This is a new build and I am newb, is there somekind of wire that I should've connected that I didnt? I check the manual but didn't see anything on that.

If you enabled AC97 in BIOS (or set to "auto"), installed the correct drivers, and plugged the speakers into the correct ports, it should work. If you use a PCI sound card, you need to disable AC97 in BIOS. I didn't try onboard sound with mine, but my Audigy2 works fine with AC97 disabled.

found out I had to put on jumper blocks. The manual was confusing because it said I only had to do that IF I need to use front panel audio.

thanks for all the replies!

Confirmed.
You have to set the 2 Jumpers at the Front Panel Audio Connector, if you do not use Front Panel.
At least with Windows XP 😉
