A8N32-SLI will not boot.

system looks like this:
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe BIOS 0703
4000+
Corsair PC3500 RAM
eVGA 7800GTX 512MB
PC Power Cooling 510 SLI PSU
Hitachi 250gb sata2.
Lite-On DVD ROM

have all 3 power connectors going to the motherboard. I left the 4-pin molex off for a minute - connected now.

beeps like normal - this is when it gets strange.. boots *very* slow. takes maybe 3-4 minutes to detect the dvd rom and hard drive, then when it finally lets me into the BIOS its *super super* slow moving around in there and have not even been able to "load setup defaults" after clearing the CMOS. I cleared the CMOS only after trying to get it to boot many times.

I get to a point where I get "CMOS time/date not set press F1..." but can not even move around enough to change the time when I get in. more or less frozen in the BIOS at this point.

I do have some other parts here to try like some different RAM, just not sure what to try first. I can't just walk in and swap this board out since it was so hard to get.

going to mess with it some more. can't think of anything obvious i'm doing wrong at this point.

tried 3 differnt types of RAM, Corsiar Value, Corsiar 3200C2, and 3500pro, all different configurations, single and all slots and even tried a piece old 128mb ddr333 also. same on all.

disconnected everything, only the video card is in pci slot 1. taking the board out will be next, and trying another power supply I guess. i do have an antec 500w sitting around here. thanks for the ideas, i'd like to get this thing going!

Doubt it's a P/S prob but anything's possible. Do you have another vid card to try? Re- check any jumpers & that cpu is fully seated & locked down. Heat sink too. Might even try keyboard & mouse on PS2 instead of USB.

I do not have another PCI-E video card, and no PCI video card - long gone on those. only PS2 keyboard plugged in, tried 2 of them also. not sure which jumpers to check. will look closely at manual/board. thanks.

yes, power is on video card.

now I can actually move around in the BIOS for some reason. still takes *forever* to get in there. I changed the RAM voltage to 2.7v. all the voltages look ok, and the temps are ok also. still no cigar. at least I can get in and change some settings now. should it be this hard on this board? It does have an older BIOS, I do not see how I can flash it if it will not even boot to the CD ROM. thanks for all the ideas.

edit: hell with it, i'm going to try and flash it. I think it will boot to CD ROM after about 5 minutes.

flash successful - now 0805. used the DVD ROM. still slower than molasses in January... or is it November.

sits on the first screen for about 4-5 minutes, telling me there is 2048mb memory installed...thanks for that info.

about ready to call it a night on this one. tomorrow I will take the board out and try on the bench alone, may even pick up a basic PCI express card to try also.

thanks for all the ideas.

tried clearing CMOS.

latest:
board is out of case on bench.
tried another PSU: Antec Smart power 2.0 500W - same thing.
replaced the video card with a basic Asus ATI PCI-E video card and no help also.

why do I get the message USB Mass Storage devices found and configured? is this just the USB 2.0 controllers? there is nothing at all plugged in into his board except the video card.

comes down to the board I'm afraid. no one has one, so will put this off to the side. unless someone has another idea? i'm buying lunch if anyone hits it.

It may be a bad BIOS chip, I'm afraid you may have to RMA the board since you eliminated most of the other culprits.

That's some good news. I'm going to be RMA'ing my board as well, and then I'm going to sell it. I'll be picking up my A8N32 Dlx-SLI from Long Beach tomorrow.

I have the same problem. Its been reported a few times over at Xtremesystems. Its more apparent in my situation when I try to use this board with Antec's NeoHE 430, which is problematic with any Asus SLIs but once I switched to a Enermax 485, that problem seems to have resolved itself. What i did notice is when you cold boot the thing, it POSTs normally.

Im glad you have it figured out though, mine is doing just fine for some reason, using bios 804.

Funny, the guy at allstarmicro said they had a hell of a time unitil they tried an Enermax PSU also. Mine is the PC Power cooling 510-SLI. using 0805 BIOS right now.

My experience:
Config:
A8N32 (obviously)
Opteron 175
2 x 1 GB Geil
Antek Case
Antek PSU (3 different types)
7800 GT (then dual 6600 BFG OC)

My other system see sig.

This thing won't post. Changed everything including 3 powesupplies. RMA'd the board, got new board, same thing. The system briefly powers up then immediately powers down.

Changed CPU to a 3400+. No go.

Tried 450 watt, 500 watt then 550 watt PSU's. No go. I then replaced the 7800 with the dual 6600's. It then powered up but won't post. Green light is on when powered up. No post sounds.

I have no more ideas on this one.

This one turns out a bit funny also. several times it would not boot. gets stuck on XP splash screen forever with the lights just going and going. using 0805 bios right now. I hope they release something new soon.

Did you try upping the memory voltage a tad?

No POST beeps usually means there's something wrong with the socket. Try this:

Power up with just the PSU.. nothing else. Verify that you at least get a beep. Then, mount your processor, and boot up again. You should get another beep for the memory error. Then, mount one stick. You should then get a beep for the VGA error. Then, mount your VCard. Let me know how this works. I'm going to be getting this board this week... HOPEFULLY.
