anyone know of a site that gives step by step instructions on reformatting an X2 3800+ system with Windows XP...including everything you need to install and in which order etc etc...thanks

You reformat the system like any other system. Personally, I do it like this:

1. Install Windows onto hard drive.
2. Make sure your box is patched with at least SP2 before connecting your computer to the net if you DO NOT have a router with a hardware based fierwall.
3. Install Ethernet driver that came with motherboard CD.
4. Download the newest set of drivers from http://www.nvidia.com.
5. Install downloaded nVidia drivers.
6. Download and install ALL updates/patches from Microsoft Update.

in regards to #3---I thought the nForce 4 drivers did that?

what about the dual core hotfix from Microsoft?...is that necessary?

When you do a fresh install, you wouldn't have any drivers for any of your Ethernet ports unless you either have a USB Ethernet adapter or you use the drivers that came with your CD or you burn the nForce drivers to a CD prior to doing this installation.
