A8N32-SLI Deluxe - SB to NB linkwidth and multiplier when overclocking

Hello,

I am a new user of the Asus A8N32-SLI. To make things worse, I'm also new to A64 overclocking. I've done first-generation Celerons, Athlon XP's, Pentium 4's, but this HT/HTT business is driving me up the wall.

I'm aware that the A64 memory controller will not tolerate an HT speed much over 1000mhz. So, when at high HTT speed, lower the multiplier to get the HTT * multipler < 1000. That's understandable.

However, how does raising HT affect the "northbridge" to "southbridge" communication speed? Do I have to lower the multiplier to match the CPU to NB, or is that bus independent of HT/HTT, and can be kept at 200*5 at all times?

There IS a separate setting in the bios, where the SB communication speed can be set between 200 and 300. What I'm not sure about is whether it FIXES the speed at that rate, or if it's a proportion of the HTT, like the "200mhz" memory clock, which merely sets the divider.

Any help from A8N32-SLI overclockers will be much appreciated. Thanks!

What's your CPU to NB and SB to NB multiplier, though? The FSB * multiplier = CPU speed is the last thing AMD hasn't changed with the new system 🙂

Well I went back to see what I did and looks like things have changed. I recently flashed my Bios to 1103 and now the settings I used to OC before don't work. It did work on 1009 and I ran it a few days without problem. The only thing I changed then was FSB, mulitplier, and Voltage. I did not change anything with either bridges. I'll dork around today or tommorow and see what I need for the new BIOS. To be sure I am a novice OCer.
