one day, out of the blue, i started having a cold boot issue. basically, when turning it on, the hd's spin up but it doesn't beep, produce an image on the monitor, or send power to the mouse or keyboard. i then have to turn off via the psu, let everything spin down and then it'll fire up. it seems almost like a capacitor problem?

any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

i have the coolermaster realpower 550. it has a power meter that never gets anywhere near the rated wattage...although who knows how accurate that is. the only other psu i have is a 500 watt phantom, which should be able to fire the system, but really isn't intended for oc'ed/gaming comps.

i've also been having problems with the overclock settings. sometimes i'll fire up a game and notice a slowdown. when i check the clock speed, it's set to default. a simple reboot without changing any bios settings reactivates the overclock.

i don't have any problems with instability. if it were the psu, i was thinking it would show during heavy usage...although maybe there's a cap in it that is failing?

Reflash to the latest BIOS. If you still have problem with the Phantom, then RMA the board after you've tested RAMs using Memtest86.

i finally realized it was the ram voltage as you suggested, serpent. i must have put it too far down when i went to my summer clock, which, now that i think about it, was when the problems first started....doh! thanks for pointing me in the right direction :D
