Just got this board, and was horrified to discover on page 2-13 of the manual, that more than 2 sticks of Corsairs "best for this motherboard" (matched 1GB sticks of 3500LL) DDR will *NOT* work on the board. The QVL document on their website says the same, in that this RAM is only approved for a single pair, thus limiting everyone to 2GB of RAM on the board. It appears that ANY low latency ram is limited in this way, according to the QVL.
I actually didn't believe it at first, so I sent a technical inquiry to Asus tech support, and their (brief) response was:
"Dear Kelly,
4 stick will not work and there is no BIOS update that will change RAM compatibility.
Sincerely,
Jon V.
ASUS Technical Support"
Can anyone confirm that 4 sticks of PRO3500LL doesn't work *at all?
I suspect that this will make many people re-consider theis RAM-MB combination.
Finally, I don't understand why Asus would "partner" with Corsair, and even go on an advertising blitz with this RAM, if they knew its use would render 2 RAM slots useless.
I'm hoping that lots of people make a stink about this, so that Asus will get it fixed (after all, the board does look pretty good, otherwise). So if there are any Asus reps lurking around, it would be great to hear some explanations.
