A8N-SLI running single card in PCIx16 slot 2

I got myself into a bit of a stupid situation - I am upgrading my xeon system with A8N-SLI board in Supermicro '743 workstation/server case. Problem: the case has only 6 pci slots so the slot 0 (blue PCIx16) is not usable :-<. Better look next time....

Question: is these a way to run single video card (6800) in the secondary x16 slot?

I haven't tried it because the manual says that if you are running a single card setup it should go in the blue slot.

Obviously if this were to be attempted you would want the SLI selector in dual mode b/c otherwise the black slot would be a 1x

Do you have the board yet?

Cases aren't very expensive. Get one without this limitation.

I have a lian-li pc50, that has 7 slots. I take it that 7 slots will work but 6 slots will not for the blue slot, right?
 
Everyone, thanks for replies - I am somewhat attached to the case I have because of 8x SATA hot-swap cage. I have considered lian-li, but there isn't any cases with good sata cages... I run 8-drive raid 5 in there.

I've got the board right here - I haven't unpacked everything and set it up so that I could return it as unopened, etc...

It MAY work in the black slot as long as the SLI selector card is set to Dual Graphics Cards. In this position the two PCI-e slots are both converted to 8x pci-e. I know 1 card works in the blue slot with the selector in this position
