Hello,

I recently built a new computer system with the following specs:

ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe Mobo Bios Rev. 1006
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ New Castle
BFG 6800 ULTRA OC Pci-Express Graphics Card
1-Gig of Corsair Twinx1024-3200xlpro Memory
500Watt Mad Dog Power Supply
LiteOn DVD Combo Drive
74 Gig Western Digital Raptor Drive (SATA) 10,000 RPM
2x300Gig Maxtor Ultra/16 Drives raided together by a software raid.
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum
XP-120 CPU Heatsink and Panaflo 120mm Fan.
All of this is powered through a Back-Up APC UPS

Recently, I have been have a problem arise. I power down my system when it isn't in use. When I power my system back up. My CMOS resets itself causing my system not to boot until I go readjust the settings since my OS is on the RAID Drive. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing this and have any solutions as to how I might fix the problem?

The issue with the Asus A8N SLI and CMOS resets is quite common. One of the motherboards I purchased had this issue, and it has been noted in the official thread. I am unsure if there is a work around - I would be interested to know if a new battery sorts out the problem (which it theoretically should). I assume you have updated your BIOS to see if that is what is causing the problem?

With Asus boards if the system doesn't POST it should load the system default settings on reboot. (I have seen on my board when this didn't occur).

I agree with the others, it sounds like a new CMOS battery is needed. CR2032 are quite cheap (£1-3 from memory). A lot of car remote locking key fobs use them now so they are readily available.

in reply to mwarner's post. I have updated my BIOS to the latest revision. I believe it is rev 1006. I didn't opt to install the 1007 Beta. For about a day that seemed to fix the problem. But it reappeared. I'm going to buy a new battery tonight and replace the current CMOS battery. Hopefully it will solve my problem. WIll keep you posted on the actual results.

I have the sort of the same problem too. Initially, my a8n was RMAed. After I got it back, it ran well for a week. One morning, my OS froze so I pressed the reboot button and it won't reboot. For about a day, it won't work so I called ASUS. The tech support guy told me to replace the battery. So I did. Yes, it worked but for about a less than a week. The same problem occured. Replaced the battery. Now I ran out of those battery and have to wait for tomorrow morning.

I hope someone with similar experience can help me out here. I'm trying my best to send it back for the second time. I love this motherboard except for these problems.
