A8N-SLI Premium "Official 1007" bios released...

Ok...a lot of speculation has been running around ocforums and xs forums about a 1008-001 beta bios. So I went to ASUS to take a peek and it's not listed but I saw the site that had it. I'm not one for downloading things from other sites that AREN'T listed on the manufactures site. So when I went to ASUS's page...they don't have the 1008-001 beta but they did have the 1007 official!

here's the link...hope this corrects some vcore issues...downloading and installing in a minute...will report back about the vcore

edit - well ever since I installed the AMD X2 drivers...my computer has been a little odd...and now Asus Update won't work and won't install from a new copy. Since I don't have a floppy drive...my update will have to wait a while. If anyone has any experience with this new official bios...let us know ok?

I installed the 1007 bios and noticed no changes. The vcore issues remain. I decided to go back to 1006. Asus Update Utility will not allow flashing an older bios than the current.

I created a boot cdrom with freedos. here's a link to a boot image.

I created another cd with awdflash.exe and the 1006 .bin file. Use the el torito boot option. Once at the C:\ prompt, inset the cd with the awdflash.exe and bios .bin file and run awdflash.exe.

Just hit Alt-F2 during POST while your floppy is in the drive. The BIOS will automatically grab the new .bin BIOS file off the floppy disk and flash - you don't have to hit any keys after alt-F2 - it works perfect every time. 🙂

Asus Update will allow flashing back to older bios. You just need to go into OPTIONS and click the option. I have upgrade to 1007 and notice no changes but then again, I don't have the vcore issues like others have.

You don't? You're the first X2 4400+ owner I've seen that doesn't. I believe you, but would you help us confirm?

What is your vcore set to now and what does it report as in the BIOS? Have you messed with it much?

I used to confidently assert that I was unaffected as well. But, well, then I tried raising it beyond a certain point. . . and there it was:

1.3625 = 1.37 (Solid)
1.3750 = 1.39 (Solid)
1.3875 = 1.39 (Solid)
1.4000 = 1.39-1.40 (1.40 heavily favored)
1.4125 = 1.40-1.42 (1.40 mildly favored)
1.4250 = 1.39-1.40 (1.40 heavily favored Note that this is a move downward.)
1.4375 = 1.40-1.42 (Evenly split)
1.4500 = 1.40 (Solid)
1.4625 = 1.40-1.42 (Evenly Split)
1.4750 = 1.50-1.52 (1.5 heavily favored) (JUMP FROM 1.42 to 1.5!) (6c increase in load temps!)
1.4875 = 1.52 (Solid)
1.5000 = 1.52-1.53 (152 mildly favored)

If you test those out and aren't affected, maybe we can determine the factor for you that makes you a fortunate one. 🙂

I'll provide the requested info when I get a chance this weekend. But currently, my vcore is set at 1.475 and mobo reads 1.49 but cpu-z reads 1.488v(mobo rounds up). Prior to creating a raid as my boot-up drive(which has hampered my oc'ing), I had no issues going up to 1.525v to oc my system to 2.75ghz.

Note - voltage readings by the motherboard and any other software sensor is not going to be 100% accurate and you need to use a good volt meter to get accurate reads.

Edit - after flashing to 1007, I noticed that I could only raise my vcore up to 1.45v, thus I have flashed back to 1006.

Same here!

I also have noticed another Vcore problem. I recently started using the "suspend" feature to turn my computer off and suspend to RAM (rather than powering it down completely at night). When it comes out of suspend state (S3), the Vcore is now 1.425V (even though BIOS is set for 1.475V). I guess I now have 4 Vcore "choices"...

BIOS = AUTO... Vcore = 1.3V
BIOS <1.475V... Vcore = 1.36V
BIOS => 1.475V... Vcore = 1.475V Unless coming out of S3 then Vcore - 1.425V

Thanks ASUS!... You guys suck!

I got my A8N-SLI Premium recently; I flashed the bios (to 1007) with the Asus update program, and it will not boot up again (no screen or beeps), 🙁 How can I fix this up?

Is the system powering on at all? If so, there are 2 things you can try...

1. Reset the CMOS - See page 2-18 in the manual. You will need to take out the CMOS battery for about 10 seconds and set a particular jumper.

If you have already done this, or it doesn't work:

2. Put the motherboard driver CD in a drive, then press ALT+F2 when turning the system on, then after waiting a while, press ENTER. It should restore the BIOS from the CD. You may not see anything on screen, but you should hear the CD being accessed.

Never tried no. 2 myself, but I heard it has worked for others. Extra info can be found in the manual or on the ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Forum: HERE

I tried all of your suggestions, but to no avail, the system still will not post. I have ringed up the retailer, and they quite plainly said "Never ever ever use ASUS update! Only upgrade your bios from dos!" So I've leant my lesion. I've got to take the MB to them and they will send it of to ASUS to get fixed! I wonder how long this is going to take! Lol 🙂

This guy has had the same symptoms that prompted me to "Try" to upgrade, it seems that it is possible to get the motherboard to run well:
It is possible to get this MB to work.

My bios became hosed after Asusupdate let me burn a bios that apparently had become corrupt (1006). Why in hell did Asusupdate not check the crc/checksum before burning?

After rebooting following the burn the bios crc/checksum (whichever) failed and the system was inop. I inserted the Asus dis and bios 1001 was burned. It was scary. That bios did not work worth sh!t. It saw my HD but windows was hosed. I created a boot cd with 1006 and life became better.

Beware of Asusupdate's shortcoming - it does not validate a bios file! That's a biggie!!!

Thanks, Caveman, for pointing out the option in Asusupdate to flash older bios. I never checked that. I am not sure why that is. The Asus CD has no qualms about burning an ancient bios. 🙂
