A8N SLI Premium No POST

Hello, I am going start raving mad on this.
I have an A8N SLI Premium mobo, AMD Opteron 170, 2x 1Gb Mushkin Extreme DDR 400 RAM, GeForce 6800GS Video Card, and a PSU rated at 500W providing 17A for the 12V line.
All was fine for about a month of use.
I was using the PC for transcoding videos overnight and I believe after a power failure one night the machine fails to POST.
Intermittentely I have got it to POST but now it just wont do anything.
When I power up the CPU fan, the PSU fan and the Video Card fan spin and thats about it.
I dont have a diagnostic POST card. There are no beeps from the PC. When I barebone it to only the MOBO, CPU and PSU also I get nothing. No beeps from lack of RAM.

Removed the battery and reset CMOS but still nothing. I had initially flashed the BIOS to latest in Jan 2006 to 1009 I think and it worked for a month.

Thanks for any help.

You're only getting 17A on the 12v line ? That seems a bit low, especially if you have one of the higher end Video cards.

My first suspect would be the PSU.

My second is a BIOS setting for the Video output selection. The default is PCI I think, and most times it's smart enough to switch to PCIex, but I had mine lock onto PCI once and was lucky to get back into BIOS (with Video) to set it to PCIex.

One thing to possibly try is to unplug everything from the MB and let it set a few minutes, then plug back in the power and see if you can get it to output Video and then get into BIOS and make sure your settings are right.

Thanks for your reply. My Mobo has been sitting quiet and alone for about 4 weeks now, since I had dismantled it and kept.
My PSU is rated at providing only 17A on the 12V line. It was working fine so am not sure why it should not POST now.

I removed everything from the board including the CPU and connected a speaker to the onboard audio. I could then hear Bitchin Betty yell out 'No CPU installed'... repeatedly.
I then installed the CPU and powered on again but got no beeps or anything after that.
Does this mean MOBO is fine and the CPU is a problem?
I had nothing else hooked up except for the CPU on the MOBO and power. I did not get any beeps whatsoever from the speaker on the chassis. The MOBO is still on the chassis though.

Well, I didn't mean for you to take your CPU out, I meant mainly sound cards, misc cards, and all power connectors.

The reason I wanted you to do this is because some PSUs keep power to your MB even when everthing is off.

Okay, if you plug in your Video card, do you get any video now ?

Do you have a Antec Neo 480 modular power supply? I had that same issue. Push the power button and the fans would spin for a sec and that was it. I finally swapped out the power supply with a ANTEC 520 something or other. THEN I see a post in the latest Maximum PC mag about issues with that power supply and that mobo. Go figure.
BTW, I even sent the power supply back and had another to replace it but still had the same issue. Guess the new ones do not have this issue.
PS By frantically unplugging the supply from the power cord, turning the switch on and off, I usually could get it to work after a time.
For other issues, see my post about the A8N-SLI with other products.
