Hi all,

I installed AMD X2 4600+ almost a month ago. Then I experienced several system instability when I played games like HL2:DoD. Sometimes I came back from work or I woke up in the morning I found my system had restarted by itself and during that time my system was running memory and harddrive intensive program such as eMule.

Does any of you guys experience problem like mine? Is it a CPU problem or motherboard problem?

Should I get a new memory like Corsair XMS-3500LL PRO or a new motherboard like Asus A8N32-SLI deluxe. I really hate when my comp restarts by itselt when I play intense battle in Day of Defeat.

Thanks all.

I have the close to the same setup and could you post all your systems specs. Include all the usual suspects: hardware, FSB speed, memory timings, CPU multiplier, and etc. Basically, give us all the informaiton from CPUz on a high level. I would try really hard to fix the board you have because who is to say that the A8N32 will not have the same problems.

Thanks,
papah

You need to provide more info, if you need trouble-shooting help.

1. Bios version?
2. Overclocking?
3. Auto or manual settings for RAM/CPU?
4. Driver video/chipset versions?
5. Have you checked event viewer for applications/system?
6. PCI slots filled?

It can be a number of issues but my stab would be a memory settings(timings/voltage) issue based on the instability during heavy system load.

wuwoze,

I would agree with caveman that it smells like a memory problem and should be easy ot fix if that is the case.

I'm curious if it may be the mix of ram. Can you play games w/out stability issues when only using one set of ram? And/or trying to loosen the timings a little bit. What kind of voltage are you running them?

Hi Capt Caveman,

The timing is 2-2-2-5, and the DDR voltage is set to auto. I have also configured the VCore to auto, and it fluctuates around 1.35v. Is it supposed to fluctuate?

I think I need a new RAM.

Thanks

I really dont think, that this is a memory problem.

Your problem is the Sound Card! X-FI Fatal1ty is reported on numorous sites on the net to have stability problems with Nforce4 chipsets!

Errors are reboots, fail to boot, BSOD and more!

I do belive, that you should start by removing the sound card and try to use the onboard for at while. I bet this will solve your issue with stability.

Hi everyone,

First of all I'd like to thank you all again for your feedback, both here on the forum and in direct contact with Customer Support.

A problem was identified on nForce4 based systems where the system ran into difficulties, related to the enumeration of the cards with 2MB (X-Fi XtremeMusic and X-Fi Platinum). This resulted in a variety of symptoms:

- The system may freeze or not boot

- The system may list multiple "Unknown PCI Device" entries and lead to a BSOD

- The system may reboot repeatedly (when "Automatically Restart" is enabled in the Advanced system settings)

Some motherboard manufacturers have already acknowledged this issue and released a BIOS update to resolve it. For systems where a BIOS update is not available we will be providing an alternative resolution in the form of a replacement card with modified firmware. Please contact Customer Support for your region for further details.

I found this memory kit: OCZ4001024ELDCPER2 but I could not find the non EL (Enhanced Latency) version. It looks like 2-2-2-5 will work on the EL version but I am not sure with the non EL stix. I would loosen your timings for testing to 3-3-3-5 and I would also manually set the voltage to 2.8 or 2.85. Your memory should be able to safely handle up to 2.9V. Make sure you are also using CMD=T2 with 4 sticks using an AMD. It usually will not even post with a 1T timing and 4 stix but make sure. Basically here are your steps:
1) Make sure you are using CMD=T2
1) Up the voltage to 2.8 to 2.9 (in jumper free config in the bios)
If that does not work
2) Loosen up the timings to 3-3-3-5 and continue to test.

I would run memtest overnight a couple of days to check for stability to finalize that the problem is solved.

I'm a bit worried about the stability of my new a8n premium i just installed. Sometimes when a program like a driver asks to reboot the system the system fails to power up after it's shut down. Occasionally it doesn't detect the sata drive after this and complains about not finding any os. I switch off myself and start up and it's fine.

How hot should the nforce chipset aipipe be? I can't touch the chip but the pipe and the grill at the end are fine, should it be this hot?

oh i'm running an x2 3800

I installed the latest bios 1009 off the asus website and the latest 64bit nforce chipset drivers. thanks,

g.

Hey gilesw,

You have raid 0?

I had the same problem before. Then I made the harddisk the first boot, and the problem disappeared.

Papah,

Yeah that could be the problem. The CPUID detected the enhanced latency version as 2-2-3-5, which supposed to be 2-2-2-5.

Both of them are enhanced latency version 2.

I will try your suggestions. Thanks alot.

lol

1. Heatpipe for sli premium doesn't work upside down in a lian li case.
2. 50cm sata lead was a bit kinked or too long.

everything sorted. p180 on it's way
