A8N-SLI or A8N-SLI Deluxe ?

next week I'm getting a NF4 SLI 939 board.

since DFI and MSI are overpriced here, the only options I have is Either ASUS A8N SLI/Deluxe or Gigabyte GA-G8NXP SLI

and since the gigabyte cost higher than the asus boards, and since I read some reviews suggesting asus boards are superior to gigabyte, then my decision lays between The SLI and the SLI deluxe.

(Price diffrence is 20$ )

What do you think ?
 
It depends on what you want. If you have loads of HDD and want to create home network with your rig as router/firewall etc DELUXE is answer, otherways nondeluxe is fine
 
If you NEED to overclock I suggest saving and getting the DFI. If you don't need to overclock and see no future in using two video cards in SLI, then I'd get the regular A8N.

I just got my A8N-SLI Deluxe and I'm very happy with the motherboard. I thought I would run into a lot of problems but it seems that all the problems people run into are when they try to overclock their system. I don't overclock so I'm content with what I have. It's been stable thus far.
 
I am only planning using 2 hard drives (currently both of em are UATA)

as for the SLI, I'm getting a GT6800 and might get another one in the future when prices are lower...

 
Simple.

1) Do you need two network interfaces?

2) Do you need/have more than four SATA drives?

If the answer to either question is yes, then get the Deluxe. Otherwise, save the $20.
 
The Deluxe. Yes it cost roughly $20 more but you get a lot more SATA cables. This is good for when you expand and buy more SATA drives. There is an external SATA faceplate that you can install so if you need to do a quick transfer from a SATA drive you don't have to open up your case to install the HD.

Now hold on a minute, the Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra SLi board is only $150 (zipzoomfly), while the A8N-SLI is $175. Earlier, when Gigabyte had the GA-K8NXP-SLI board, I woud've recommended against it, however Gigabyte fixed the problem in the newer K8N Ultra SLI board. Gigabyte has always served me well and I beleive is an excellent choice for the money, however I could be wrong with the pricing of both Asus and Gigabyte boards. If this is the case, and the Asus is cheaper, it is also a fine board and choice.

its all about the fact that it gets alot of bios updates, and asus pays little attention to the regular model.

get the deluxe or regret it.
 
The Deluxe just so you have the extras for future expansion if necessary. Even if you don't use them it's only $20. You could even wait for the Platinum.
 
Yet another vote for the Deluxe version.

Bought the plain version, and then realised that I needed another LAN port needed to connect to other machines in a "separate" LAN configuration.
 
I have the Non-Deluxe. 8 SATA ports and 2 LANs on the Deluxe is overkill IMHO. Who needs 8 hard disks (Plus any on the IDE ports) unless you're running a server? Save the extra few bucks to help pay for other components.

Regret it? That's a bit harsh. Perhaps there aren't so many updates for the Non-Deluxe board because it doesn't NEED them? Less extra hardware on the Non-Deluxe may mean less potential problems?


 
I still can't understand why anyone would need 8xSATA. I mean, I love my deluxe, but that kind of storage I/O is usually reserved for server boards.

I'm already using five of them.
 
boy am I glad I got the deluxe version

1) The NV SATA controller is fuxed, using the SIL controller now
2) The NV GigaNIC uses MUCH more CPU then the Marvel NIC

So you see I'd have a rig that was FUBAR without the extras because the main selling points of the NF4 are very very buggy, aka the NIC and SATA controller.

STUPID QUESTION: If you have a router,what does having 2 Lan ports do for you? Sorry if this is ignorant, but... really?

If you're using the deluxe mobo, then one possibility is that you can connect the second LAN port for a dedicated file and printer sharing to other(s) computer(s) in your network, without sharing the internet connection, which goes through the first firewalled LAN port.

If you have a multi port router, then the connected computer(s) can connect its/their other LAN port(s) to the router for its/their own internet connection(s).

It might sound superfluous, but this configuration is "supposed" to be more secure.
