Using an A8N-SLI, 74gb Raptor as boot, 2 hitachi 160gb in raid 0 (both of these are SATA on nf4 raid), and 2 more SATA hitachis in raid 1 on the SI raid controller.
OK, very recently my system has been behaving strangely, and I've noticed event errors in the event log (ID 51) which a lot of people seem to be getting. I have also noticed that my SATARAID5 utility has been popping up on reboot with the raid 1 volume degraded (yellow), which it has not been doing since I disabled write caching for this volume.
Well, the strange thing is that I went back to check the raid 1 disk entry in device manager, and under the scsi policies tab the write caching has become checked by default, and the whole tab is greyed out so I can't change it! What the hell??? Can anyone tell me why this is disabled (it's disabled under the nvidia raid0 disk too) and how to reenable it so I can turn off write caching?
ps- I don't think this is related to my event 51 problems, but if anyone has figured out a definitive resolution to that I'd like to hear it too
Thanks
