Is anyone having trouble using the motherboard firewall (NVIDIA firewall) and autoupdate for Norton Antivirus? I have the firewall set to LOW but have to turn it off to get a good connection with NAV site.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You can tweak the firewall. I've had to do this for a couple of applications.

From the web-based interface (accessed at http://localhost:3476/cgi-bin/ncgir.exe?menu/fwl_index.html), select Firewall | Advanced Configuration | Application.

From the lower table, click the middle button, labelled Add Rule. Browse for the NAV executable (or if the update program runs in a seperate process, browse for that executable). Type something meaningful in the description, such as "NAV Update", change the rule dropdown from Deny to Allow. Click Apply.

When returned to the Application page you should see the table has been updated to include your new rule. Click the Apply button to the left of the Add Rule button, and you should be good to go.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Louis.

I'm having the same issue, and putting the Applications settings to Allow manually still doesn't let it update. I have to turn the firewall OFF, reboot, update, turn back on, reboot. Any ideas?

*bump*
As I'd like to get this resolved so i don't have to disable this thing and revert back to software firewall :p

BTW SMatson, did you get yours working? If so, how? Thanks

Great news, the 1004 BIOS fixed my NAV issue. It now updates with NAM enabled :D

edit:
weird, it worked two times after updating to 1004. reboot and now it won't work again :(

The Nvidia firewall seriously slows my internet down. I wouldn't use it at all personally.

I am also having issues. Kaspersky won't install properly, NAV won't update, and bittorrent won't work well - despite all the proper 'allows' and port clearing.
And any attempt to install my own ZA FW met with serious system lockup/crash.

By turning off the Windows Firewall I was able to install the Firewall properly and it worked with just about everything, except Norton. Which is kinda odd, since they bundle Norton. Still, I uninstalled it and installed ZA, and now I have no issues at all.

Shame really - the firewall was one of my reasons for getting this board.

OK, I got tired of not being able to update NAV. So I went digging in the NAV options, and figured it out.

To get it working with NAM, go into your NAV options, Miscellaneous options, uncheck "Enable Protecion for my Symantec Product"

After doing so, you should be able to update with NAM enabled. Hope it helps everyone else.

Great! Thanks for figuring that one out. I spent a couple hours on it and couldn't figure it out.

Anyhow, I REALLY liked the nV Firewall. And I didn't have any slow internet access as the previous poster remarked.

I thought the only problem (for me anyway) was Norton not updating properly.

However, when I discovered that the firewall failed the GRC.com LeakTest program (both stealth, and renaming to a known safe application), then I had to abandon the firewall and go back to Zone Alarm.

I really hope they can fix these issues because offloading 90% of firewall duties to hardware (keeping the CPU from having to deal with it), is an excellent idea.
