I've joined the ranks of people with loud northbridge fans (although it at least took me a couple of years). I noticed on the Asus website that some versions of this mobo have a heatpipe or something of this nature. Is this something that can be purchased?

NOTE: more questions a few post down - please look!

I was trying to get the northbridge fan off this afternoon in anticipation of the heat pipe getting here in a few days and i scraped the back of the mobo a little bit attempting to squeeze those foolish push pins. i hooked everything back up and the system seems fine but after this experience i have a few questions:

1. how easy is it to damage the back of the mobo in this way? is my system now a ticking time bomb waiting to go up in a puff of smoke due to the scrapage?
2. do i really need to get this whole thing off or can i just unscrew the fan on the top to put the heat pipe on?
3. if i really need to take the whole thing off how the hell do you get the pushpins back through the board without destroying anything? can i just clip the plastic bits or do i need those for the heat pipe?

Anyone know of a north bridge cooler, Active or Passive, that I can put on the board without taking it out? me fan died and I'm going to fry this thing unless I replace it. -JC
